• Be careful about speed, but make sure accuracy is >70%

• Identify weaknesses and focus on these weaknesses

• 8-10 question sets (timed) per day

• 10 Skill Trainer Speed Reading and Keyword Scanning

Week 8:

• 8-10 question sets (timed) per day

• 10 Skill Trainer Speed Reading and Keyword Scanning

Week 9:

• 1 VR Mini Mock

• 10 timed VR question sets

• 10 Skill Trainer Speed Reading and Keyword Scanning

ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS, WATCH AT LEAST 1-2 VR SUBTESTS COMPLETED ON YOUTUBE (done by Emil Eddy, etc)

Most of the questions that I got wrong were due to time pressure (30 seconds is not a lot), hence this is definitely one thing I need to work on over the term.

•  I want to grow the Capability Element of Being Reflective. Developing this element would be meaningful for me because:  I’m doing UCAT next year, and I need to develop reflective skills to see how to improve where I'm going wrong. This is an entryway into studying Medicine in University, which is my passion in life at the moment (as I’ve stated in EIF Task 1)

• To support growth in this element, I plan to develop the skill of Verbal Reasoning in UCAT. This is currently my weakest subset of UCAT, and I really wish to develop it to an exceptional standard, to increase my chances of getting into Medicine, and build on my reading comprehension skills, which are necessary for my future goal. I will be able to perform my practise at home, making it more accessible for me.

Milestone:

• By the beginning of term 4, I aim to improve my VR score in UCAT by at least 100, to maximise my chances of receiving a high UCAT score next year.

Practise:

• The micro-habit I’ll do 3x/week is: completing practice UCAT VR questions to build my skillset in UCAT. Currently VR is my weakest subset of UCAT. 

Anticipate Obstacles:

• Assignments

  • If this occurs, I will sideline UCAT until I have finished the assignment, then work extra hard in the following weeks

  • I will improve my time management

Check-ins:

• Check-in 1:

  • I will have improved my scores by at least 5/20

  • The check-in will be 2 weeks after the baseline Mini Mock

• Check-in 2:

  • I will have improved my Mini Mock score by 5/20 after check-in 1

  • This will occur 5 weeks after the baseline Mini Mock

• Check-in 3:

  • I will have improved by 15/20 total after the baseline mock.

  • This will occur at the end of the time period (10-12 weeks after baseline)

Transfer

• At the end, I will show my growth by doing a final mini-mock to show my score improvement. I will reflect on any mistakes and show the change in my reflective skills and how this has assisted in improving my VR UCAT skills

Most questions were incorrect due to misreading the text or question stems.

This was a Stage 2 Methods test. At the start of the week, I tried to manage my time well; however, this was not working well with revision for my test, hence I sidelined UCAT for the week and will resume in Week 6.

During this week, I watched 2 VR subsets by Emil Eddy.

This was a 2 question improvement since Week 4, which was slightly disappointing, having expected higher, however it is still an improvement.

Out of the 8 questions guessed (in yellow), 2 of these were correct. I took significantly more time on Question 18 than the average time, because I needed to reread the passage. To improve this, I need to improve my retention, and to know where key words are in the text, after reading it once.

This can be done by using the Key Word scanner in the MedEntry app.

Although this was an untimed practice session, I still tried to minimise time in order to prioritise time as well for the timed practce.

In this subset, I got more questions correct than I got in Week 7, which is likely due to heightened focus. The texts in this subset were significantly long, hence, it took me longer to read the texts.

I need to also improve my reading speed (which can also be done in MedEntry skill trainers)

This set, I was not focusing on time, but more on accuracy, which really showed in my score. Although for many questions I took significantly longer than expected, it was still an increase in my accuracy, which was excellent, since my accuracy had either decreased or stayed approximately constant during the term.

I took significantly longer for this question, which indicates that I still need to improve my reading speed.

The last sentence in particular was the only sentence in the text that supported that the answer must have been option B.

This means that I must read the text more carefully, however also quickly.

Again, I didn't read the text carefully enough to see that they are all hypotheses, meaning they are not definitive. Since there is no proper evidence to support or reject the claim, the correct option must be Can't Tell

This score was likely because I was unable to practice my UCAT skills during the holidays.

I took more time on questions that I got incorrect, probably because I didn't understand some of the words, or because the text was extremely long.
