Mental illness is something that everyone is effect by it might be in a good way but one thing is for sure people with mental illness should not be able to carry guns because they have proven multiple times that don't do the right thing with them. The government has not done a very good job of making sure that the background checks go as planned making sure that the people that are trying to obtain guns are doing it for the right reason.

People with mental illness should not be able to carry guns they don't have a stable mindset to own and do the right things with firearms. For example, the American Psychiatric Association states the definition of mental illness as “Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these). “ Therefore why should people with mental illness be able to carry firearms if their conditions are explained as somewhat unstable. After all “11 out of the 50 states connect mental illness with a background check and have the files in place to check” it states in the article “Mental Health Reporting”. This said that only 11 states feel like mental illness has something to do with a gun the other 39 states feel that mental illness has nothing to do with what the person is planning to do with the gun. These 2 pieces of evidence tie together to support the claim to show that people with mental illness should not be able to carry guns. The defintions shows that their emotions changes and behavior issues will not help them in making the right decisions with the firearms. They can get the firearms with the right intentions but what id their feelings change or something was to go wrong would they able to make the right decisions with the firearm. There are many examples of people with mental illness did not do the right thing with their firearms.

People with mental illness have been given many chances to show that they are able to carry guns for the right reasons but instead, they have shown otherwise. For instance, In 2012 Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and injured 17 people at Virginia Tech University in 2007. Cho had been treated before for mental illness during his childhood. He would talk to campus counselors about what he was feeling multiple times. He went to 2 licensed dealers to get these firearms he was able to get around 2 background checks in order to get the firearms said in the article Gun Control Vs. Mental Health Care: Debate After Mass Shootings Obscures Murky Reality. Also, James Holmes walked into a movie theater in 2012, shoot and killed 12 people in Aurea Colorado. Before this tragic incident happened Mr. Holmes was treated by a psychiatrist for whatever mental illness he had. But yet he was still able to purchase a gun. These pieces of evidence support the claim because they show that the people that have mental illnesses are not able to carry firearms because of the actions they think are okay to commit with this firearms. Both of these people were able to get a firearm pass background checks. Neither of the times they were evaluated before the incident they didn't have it in the record meaning that the necessary paper needed to be done so that it could go in the system wasn't in there because of the lack of people caring about the consequences. The government is making it very easy for people with mental illness can get a gun the background checks are very minimal. Also, that is the licensed gun shops that aren’t doing a detail background checks to make sure none of the people trying to get a gun aren’t going to do the wrong thing.

Others might think that Everyone should be able to carry firearms it doesn't matter if they have a mental illness or not. This is wrong because lots of mass shooting that have taken place the shooters have had a history of being treated for mental illness or have one. They made a way to get the guns they get around background checks they get around not even get around them they don't care because the checks are the minimum of what that person has or has not done. For example, in the article Gun Control Vs. Mental Health Care: Debate After Mass Shootings Obscures Murky Reality it states “About 60 percent of mass shooters have a history of serious mental disorders and two-thirds had never been seen by a mental health professional” showing that there are no burries up for people to get guns they can get guns whenever and where ever. After all, about 6 months before the shooting happened in Borderline Bar and Grill in thousand oaks the shooter was called into the police for yelling and being abnormally irritable they called the mental health crisis team. These 2 pieces of evidence support that people with mental illness should not have guns. There should be some penalty for people with mental illness that are carrying a gun even if they have not done anything. If you have been treated, seen, held for any mental disability then you should not the right to carry a gun.

In conclusion mental illness is a very normal thing to have but people with mental illness should not be able to carry or own guns they have proven that they can’t do and they don't need to be able to. The government needs to put up more barriers for people to get guns it is easy in some states to get gun licenses for whoever you are but too easy to where that people that really don't need them got a hold of them.

The brain is a very powerful tool and when your brain is not normal then that can cause things to go left. People with mental illness don't have the brain stibility to really make big decisions
