King Leopold II funded and commanded the enslavement of so many Congolese people to fuel his own greed. He saw a financial opportunity in the Congo which he capitalized on by enslaving the people of the Congo to harvest rubber and other materials to sell for money. The Slaves never saw an ounce of these profits while Leopold bathed in his own wealth.
