After reading: "What actions do people do at school, home and in the world that go against the Golden rule?"]]> 2019-05-06 02:33:57 UTC https://padlet.com/8frankstreet/nqrnty8btnvy/wish/357027356 8frankstreet https://padlet.com/8frankstreet/nqrnty8btnvy/wish/357028670 By doing this lesson analysis, i have really been shocked by all the language demands that go into even a primary grade 2 lesson plan!  I must admit at first i chose a primary grade lesson plan thinking it would be very easy to identify the language demands in it and make language objectives for them, but the deeper I got into this assignment, the more difficult it seemed to actually write down 5 clear and attainable language objectives for this lesson plan. The teacher's talk (or language of instruction) in this lesson plan seems quite advanced for grade 2 ELL students and we can't always assume that by grade 2 students have had prior knowledge or experience with the concept of religion more less various World Religions. I think the content of this book for grade 2 students is not appropriate and would be more suitable for the higher grades of 4-6. Overall, doing this lesson analysis makes me realize how important it is for teachers to really think about what they expect students to achieve and learn in a lesson. Are we expecting too much? Are we able to offer enough scaffolds and support to the ELL students in the class who need them? These questions motivate me to ensure during lessons I check in more with all my students and really determine if they are understanding the content. I would also give pre -reading opportunities to experience the book's concepts in other ways, through videos, or pictures.
