This video is created by Bank of Canada about Debit and Credit card fraud and how you can protect the card from fraud. They shows us that if there are suspicious customers that orders a lot of stuff and rushing to finish the transaction, don't care about any sale or promotions. We should follow card acceptance procedures like make sure to check the signature panel on the back of the card is signed and it matched the signature of the customer. It is not altered or taped over. Check also the security features of the card, make sure the front number of the card are clear and uniform in sizes. The first 4 digits of the card should match the 4 digits printed above or below it and match also the last 4 digits printed on the receipts. For Debit cards skimming, fraudster steal PIN by shoulder surf or PIN hole camera that records the PIN.
I chose this video because it has also a credible source which is the Bank of Canada. Many people use credit cards to shop anywhere so its important to know how to protect credit card. It will also alert those in retails or stores how to be vigilant when there are suspicious shoppers to prevent crime.

I've attached a link to one of Canada's most commonly used bank. They discuss how they protect you from fraud and identify theft. TD bank uses a number things to protect you and your private personal information. They use single- code security pins, they have a voice recognition for when you call them, as well as security alerts if there's strange activity on your account. They also provide information on how you can protect yourself as well.
I chose to added this link because I think it's important to know how your financial institution protects your information before opening an accounts with them. This is important because if any fraud were to take place you need to know if the bank will support you during the situation.

What surprised me most about identity theft the was a hacker only needs one element of your identity to commit fraud. By having just your name they can make up the rest of the information such as your birth date, address, etc. Then use your identity to apply for loans, credit cards or whatever they want. This can harm your chances of getting a credit increase on your card or obtaining a loan because the bank thinks the debt the scammer took was actually you. This is honestly so scary because you never know who as access to the information you give out.

Question 2: Provide a real-life example of how this topic is relevant or interests you.

This topic interests me because identity theft can happen to anyone. It is so easy for a scammer to send out mass emails to thousands of people and if they open them or even fill out the information it asks for, you could be at risk. I receive emails all the time telling me "I won a contest" and for me to collect the prize I need to give them my bank information. I personally know not to give out that information especially if I have not entered a contest. But I could imagine how many people fill it out because they make you feel lucky for winning something. That being said it is very important to educate others on ways to protect and detect when they are at risk for identity theft.

Question 3: If you could pass on your knowledge to a family member or friend, what do you think is the most important thing to pass on?

I think the most important information to pass on is how to protect yourself. This is important because you can't always rely on institutions to protect you. you must take the steps yourself to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft. Although, educating yourself won't cut it, you have to put these protections in place for it too work. Protecting yourself and having the banks protect you, these still aren't 100% effective. Scammers and hackers are very smart. however, the more protection you you have the more difficult it will be to fall victim. It can happen to anyone at anytime, they don't discriminate, so don't be embarrassed if it happens. The most important thing is to report it immediately and follow up with the police and financial institution.

This website is credited from the government of Ontario. It provides red flags to watch for when trying to protect yourself from identity theft. Individuals often receive emails, texts, or website links that are scams and could be attempting to steal your personal information on a day to day basis. Pay close attention to grammatical errors, personal information requests, wire transferring and much more.

I chose this website because it is a provided from the government, therefore I know it is reliable information. It is also important to inform yourself upon red flags of identify theft via the internet. Our generation uses the internet as a main source of communication, thus you never know who has access to your information when signing up for websites. For example; when a you receive a message to "click the link below" because you've won a contest for a large amount of money but you haven't enter any contests. Do not click anything and delete the message, they are probably trying to take your information.

This video is a clip from a CBC news interview about identity theft and synthetic ID fraud. It discusses how easy a hacker can steal your information. Some hackers just need to know your email address so when you click on it, it downloads or asks for personal information. A synthetic ID when they take at least one official detail of your identity and fill in the rest with unofficial details that are not actually "you" such as a fake address.
I chose this video because notifies individuals how easy a person can take your information and use it for identity theft. They simply just need your full name. A piece of information I found useful was they suggested using disposable emails where they can only receive a limited amount of emails before it is no longer accessible. This could be used for giving out to stores or signing up for websites.
