Immigrants from Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia are also coming to the US because of the promise of money. The population in the West is booming like crazy! Even Indians, free blacks, and slaves are coming out to test their luck in the mines and camps as well. However, you better come quick if you want your share of gold. I've moved to California with my wife in hopes to strike it rich off of gold, which is in abundance here but sadly we haven't struck anything more precious than mud after a week or so. We left camp a few days ago and let the Chinese men go at it. When we came back we found them all with bags full of gold flakes and even nuggets. When we asked them how they found so much they just said they had more patients than us. What does that even mean? I am a good worker but sadly my crops kept failing over and over on my farm back in China. I moved here with my family after we heard the promise of riches and gold in America. When the other men from China and I started working on our first day, we were immediately ridiculed by the way we looked and spoke by the Americas. They chased us away and made us wait for them to get all the gold in the area. When they finally left we got a chance to look for the gold they didn't bother to spend time looking for and most of us got quite a bit. We were all used to the type of hard and backbreaking work here for we experienced the same thing back on our farms. When the Americans saw the profits we made, they were so angry.
