    • First Responders at 2nd level = Maths Department and Learning Support.

    • In the 2000's there was a prioritisation  literacy and numeracy. It came into the spotlight due to the economic collapse.
    • After the PISA results came out Project Maths was launched. 
    • Project Maths allows students the capacity to: think, reason, communicate and engage in creative exploration.
    • Another macro change in our system = Junior Cycle Reform (JCR)
    • Being numerate is part of a short course - key learning priority.

    • Reasons why numeracy is important: practical, civic (understanding public issues), professional (required for employment), recreational (extended choices of activities, sports + games) and cultural. 
    • No such thing as a pre-packaged curriculum - best thing to do is go to the definition. 
    • We need to make numeracy and literacy evident in our teaching. E.g. learning walls that highlights literacy and numeracy.
