A way to challenge the perceptions is to talk to producers/directors of media and having the conversation with them about if the media they are putting out is comparable to the realities of black men.

I agree with this video. For decades in the media black man are either perceived as the villain or as the joke, never an in between. Its been harmful to the black community because this affects the way these men view themselves but also how our community views them and what we expect from black man. Some have been pushed into rapping or basketball just to fit into society because this is what society expects from them. So when we see successful black doctor, engineer, astronaut, governor. People will have a hard time believing that black man can do more than just sports and music.

Black people sometimes are looked down upon and are always taken for anything, as the second or last option.

Its singular value is in getting around many people's natural defense mechanisms, especially when it comes to a sensitive subject like race where many people don't want to talk about it because they're either over it or they believe we all should be. They say things like, "Look, you have a black president, why are we still doing this," but we're not quite there yet. When people laugh, it's a physical and uncontrollable release that some satire or parodies can cause in people.

I agree that black people (even if it's fair for white people and everybody else to have it too), should have a safe, free and public platform to teach people who oppress, misinterpret, diminish and stereotype the image of a black person--about why it doesn't make sense to create a bad image for people like them. Traits like: being a good student, being a caring mother, being a "happy family", being a present father, being a spoiled [black] child, being rich and established; and any traits commonly portrayed through white people, are (and can normalized) in the Black community too
