One of the symbols of our town are the Roman Baths . Today they are among the most preserved architectural monuments in Bulgaria. They were built around the end of the second century a.c and were discovered in 1971 by the Archeological Museum workers directed by Milko Mirchev. Roman Baths, or Terms as they are known, became one of the town symbols because there is an extraordinary stage for theatre and concerts, where the Roman ruins are excellent background for performances. These are also the largest Roman Baths on the Bolkans.
Researched: Viktor
Translated by Stoyana

The church was built in 1602. Villagers found Holy Virgin’s Icon between Elm branches near Liazmoto, which is a place close to Varna, and they took it to the town. They get it in a coach and decided to leave the icon where the animals stop.

They stopped at a place called “Kale Megdan” and people built the church there. It was called “Assumption of Holy Virgin”. It is very small and half of it is dug up in the ground.

The church icons are really big treasure. Most of Saint’s faces are watching south, not west. The iconography of the church is very interesting and it is made in 1896 from dark wood.

I and my brother were baptized in that church. On important Christian holidays we visit the church. When we are there we feel happy and united.

Research: Eleonora

Translation: Zornitsa
