Cameron Aden P. 5

1. After exploring The History Channel's article on The Louis and Clark Expedition, one new fact which I learned is that, that, despite the great hardships of their journey, the only member of The Corps of Discovery Expedition who passed away on said expedition was 22-year-old Sergeant Charles Floyd, who, on August 20th of 1804, died from an abdominal infection, possibly caused by the disease appendicitis.

2. After exploring The History Channel's article on The Louis and Clark Expedition, another new fact which I learned is that the only violent episode of The Corps of Discovery Expedition took place at Marias River near present-day Cut Bank, Montana, when Lewis and his group (on the journey back, when they split away from Clark and the rest of the Corps members) encountered eight Blackfeet warriors, two of them they were forced to kill when they attempted to steal the group's weapons and horses, the location of which became known as Two Medicine Fight Site.

3. After exploring The History Channel's article on The Louis and Clark Expedition, one final new fact which I learned is that, after the expedition, both Lewis and Clark received double their previous pay as well as 1,600 acres of land for their efforts, and that Lewis was made governor of The Louisiana Territory, and Clark was appointed Brigadier General of Militia for said territory, as well as a federal Indian agent. Unfortunately, while Clark remained well-respected and lived a successful life, Lewis was proven to be an ineffective governor, and drank far too much, and, unmarried and without children, passed away in 1809 of two gunshot wounds, possibly self-inflicted.

1 fact I learned was that when Lewis and Clark were going to negotiate with Indians, they would give a gold coin that showed Jefferson on one side and a tomohok with two hands that said, "Peace and Friendship". The reason the land became available was because Napoleon took control of land again and Jefferson took it with only 15 million dollars! Towards the end of the expedition they had to fight, and Lewis was shot in the butt. I learned something from those facts and I thought it was interesting.
