The biggest highlight of the trip to Nong Jam Elephant Nature Park was bathing the elephants.Elephants just like us,like to cool themselves down to get away from the torrid heat of the afternoons. My schoolmates and I had a first hand experience in guiding the elephants to the Mae Heang River to make sure not a trace of grit and dirt were to be found on their bodies.Being so close to the elephants left me in awe and I learnt that they had needs just like us.Patience was one of the values I picked up during this activity as I had to make sure that the elephants were squeaky clean for a good amount of time.Although it sounded and appeared like a simple task, bathing the elephants was truly an eye opening experience.

For the first time in my life, I pulled up my sleeves to start on the construction of a mud pit under the blazing hot sun. My schoolmates and I put our blood, sweat and tears into building of shelters for the elephants. Constructing the mud pits are physically demanding and only able-bodies were permitted to carry out construction as we had to use hefty materials and tools. We assisted the construction of building the resting and lounging areas ,for elephants who have suffered a life of hardships, with care and concerns for the well being of the elephants in our hearts. Teamwork and cooperation was an essential ingredient for this activity as we all work hand in hand under the harsh condition as the sun beats down on us mercilessly.

The entire learning trip to the Elephant Nature Park was one of a kind. It was my first time to an elephant park and it had left its powerful footprint deeply etched into my memory. I learnt to sympathies with the elephants' hardship as I worked closely beside them. I felt their pain and suffering as we,human and animals are alike because we are both blood and skin. I am thankful for getting this golden opportunity to go to this learning trip because I learnt to be more patient, caring, observant to the needs of others, improving my teamwork and many more. These elephants and the park taught me a lot of priceless life lessons.

This learning trip to the Elephant Nature Park takes place annually. So if any of you have not gotten a chance to travel to this place, you should sign up. I promise you, based on my experience, that this trip is worth spending the money on. We are not the only inhabitants of mother Earth, animals roam the earth too. We are destroying their habitats so we should compensate by helping them to adapt in this globally changing world. Spend your time meaningfully by volunteering to Elephant Nature Park instead of spending your time away in front of the technology devices. The learning trip will stun you in a way you will never get to experience from your devices. It is worth all the money you need to get to the place. The place will teach you values and life skills you might not yet acquired. In any case, this is a win-win situation. Both the elephants and the volunteers are helping each other in their own ways. So what are you waiting for! Sign up to participate in a community service learning trip to the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand! Another amazing life await you there. If you are still not able to get away from your devices, think of the trip as a way to be able to catch more Pokemon! This kills two birds with one stone.
