After the Second World War, life for the people of California seemed to be at an all time high. Even though there was a super short depression, the economy quickly got itself back on its feet, to say the least. The post war era for California was looking good. However, for people like Laura this had more of a negative impact on her. There were expectations set for her that were strictly set to be her role, no exceptions. She was expected to be the perfect wife, perfect mother, and perfectly happy American citizen.
