         <title>Who is responsible for children&#39;s education? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many schools compete to provide the best quality of education. In the recent years, we can see there are many schools that carry certain predicate. There are schools that have International standard, National Plus standard and National Standard. Those schools are regarded as the best quality, thus many parents are proud if they can send their child to study there. On the other hand, the parents think that’s enough to send their kid to school which is regarded as the best quality. Parents’ duties only pay the tuition fee and fulfill the administration stuff. They become very busy that they don’t have sufficient time for their kids. The school becomes the only place for children development. Consequently,the teachers get a lot of demands from the parents. Besides that, the teachers also very often get lots of pressure from the government with change of curriculum every now and then.&nbsp;<br>There are questions can be raised here. Who has the main responsibility for the child education? School (teachers) or government or parents?&nbsp;<br>Today, teachers are considered as the main and only actors of education. Teachers are everything because they have to play lots of roles. The high expectations can affect the teachers become frustrated because they might find themselves unable to fulfill all the expectations. For instances, when there are kidnap case at school, the teachers become security guards. If the kid has problem at home, the teachers should become psychologists who have to take care of the students’ development. &nbsp;If there is violent act at school, the teachers have to be responsible for that. And when there are students fail in the National Exam, the teachers should be responsible for that case.<br>On the other hand, the school achievement many times is measured by the percentage of the graduates. The school that has low number of graduates is identified as low quality school while the school that is able to reach the highest numbers of the graduates is considered as good quality school. Those facts tell us how education is understood as certain people’s responsibilities and duties, not everybody. Hence, we need to go back to find the substance of education. &nbsp;<br>What are the criteria to call an action as an education act? For me, an action can be an education act because we give certain meaning. Education can be revealed in any forms of actions which has the main goal: to lead human to be human. In other words, every human action has its implication for other people, it means, every human person can take part in doing education.Parents. Education&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;is first of all the right and the main duty of the parents because child&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;and parents have the natural unity. Therefore, education first and&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;foremost begins from family. Every action in family has its educational implication&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;which can be positive or negative. Family becomes the school of life&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;because every member has the task to educate others. Government.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Government has the role to acknowledge, protect and facilitate the implementation of the rights and obligations of parents to educate their children.&nbsp; The duties of government are very significant&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;because the duties are for the sake of the country. Education is the foundation&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;to build the nation. Through education, the nation should prepare the&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;young generation to be the qualified person who can participate and build the life&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;of the nation.School. The country must prepare the&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;facilities and teachers for the sake of the teaching process. This&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;is where the role of the&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;school as a means of personification the task of the country in developing the&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;teaching. In this sense, education and teaching cannot be separated. School&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;cannot do its job in teaching without educational dimension. Through&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;teaching, the school participates in giving education.<br>In short, the parents must be the first and foremost who educate their kids, not the teachers. The teachers are the extension of the hands of the parents and nation. We should understand that education is not only teaching or skills training to master certain skills, but to humanize human beings. The economic globalization is really affecting the formal education all around the world especially the schools. The schools tend to fall in an effort to meet the demands of the market economy.Children are sent to certain school in order to gain knowledge which can be used in the job market. The young generation should not only have certain skill for running the business in the future, but also they should be more humanized. Therefore,the parents, school (teacher) and government should be aware of the form of teaching that is not merely pragmatic but also must build the characters with the values and virtues which is based on our cultures and traditions.&nbsp;<br><br>Library of Driyarkara School of Philosophy, June 17, 2013</div>]]></description>
