Although they are twins, Xio and her twin are very different, and she notices it. On pg 45 she states, " Although twin is older by almost an hour- of course the birth got complicated when it a my turn- he doesn't act older. He is years softer than I will ever be." Here Xio mentions how although her twin is older than her by an hour, he acts younger. It seems like he is more immature than her or he is just more docile. Xio seems very strong minded, this insinuates her brother is more calmer and maybe more chill.

Xiomara doesn't have a great relationship with her religion. On page 15 it states,"My life would be easier if I didn't feel like such a debt to God." That shows that her relationship with her religion is not good because good relationships are not built off of having a debt to someone.

She doesn't want to be apart of religion because her mom is forcing her and her mom also said that she owes it to god.For being alive and needs to get her place in heaven by cleaing the house and not using tampons and to use pads.

As Xiomara is growing up and her body is changing, she starts to have a different view on her body. On page 42 is says "...Since Mami says that I'm 'la nina de la casa', its my job to help her out around the house. In their family, Xiomara is the only female in their house. Even though her mom is also there, her mom is much older and is trying to teach Xiomara how to be a female. But Xiomara feels some type of way because her brother doesn't have to clean. So, Xiomara has a mindset that because shes technocally the 'female of the house', all the cleaning responsibilities are on her.

Xiomara feels that she is a burden to her mother, and pressured to be the perfect daughter for her. She states many times throughout the story that she is afraid of her and that's why she listens. On page 21 it states, "your mother has sight for nothing but you two and God...all the things they want you to be...too feel like a burden..resent my own birth" It also states on page 30, "I'm afraid of my mother so I listen to what she says." Xiomara feels that her mother wants her to be perfect and that all she cares for is the relation with God and her children. This causes her to feel afraid of upsetting her and also feel unhappy with the way she already is since she isn't "perfect" the way her mother wants her to be.

In what we have read, Xio doesn't really have the best relationship with her mother. In the book on page 30 it says, "I'm afraid of my mother so I listen to what she says." This shows how Xio doesn't really like her mom and she doesn't really have the type of relationship where she can talk to her or have a kind of 'friendship' with her mom like other parents have with their kids.

This shows how she wants to delay the process because she doesn't enjoy or care about her religion.

In the book we read, Xiomara feels like she can't express herself to her mother because she feels different. On page 30 it says "I should hate Caridad. She's all my parents want in a daughter. Shes everything i could never be." This shows that she doesn't have the best relationship with her mom that her friend does with her parents, so that's why she feels like she cant talk to her mom or express how she feels.

This shows that she doesn't think she should be in debt to god when he doesn't look out for her.

on page 41 its says "when i turned twelve my twin brother saved up enough lunch money to get me something fancy"

"the notebook wasn't the regular marble kind most kids use he bought it from the bookstore the cover is made of leather with a woman reaching to the sky etched on the outside and a bunch of motivational quotes scattered like flower petals throughout the pages" this tells us a lot about there relationship because its shows us how much that the twin brother cares about her sister. it shows that he really cares for her and wants to get her something for her birthday.

Xiomara is not very religious. From pages 12 to 15 she talks about God and on page 13 she mentions him as, ¨A friend I just don´t need anymore.¨ This is showing that she has a dwindling relationship with her religion since she also mentions going the bible camps and church throughout the story.

Xiomara and her mother do not have a good relationship. On page 32 Xiomara states, "Without Mami's Rikers Island Prison-like rules," That evidence shows how Xiomara thinks that her mom is very strict. When you think someone is strict you generally will not think about that person in a good light because rules are usually things that block fun.

In the story, Xiomara feels like she has to be the perfect daughter to satisfy her mother. On page 30 it states,ïm afriad of my mother so I listen to what she says. Caridad genuinely respects her parents. I should hate Caridad. She's all my parents want in a daughter. Shes everything I could never be." This shows how even though she loves her bestfriend, the way her friend acts is what Xiomara thinks her mom wants her to be. Xiomara knows she can't be like Caridad which hurts her because that's how Xiomara feels her mom wants her to be.

Xiomara has a great relationship with her twin brother. on page 41 it says "Xiomara brother saved up enough money to buy Xiomara a book". she got him steel knuckles for protection. This shows that they both have a good relationship by buying each other presents. It also shows how her buying him steel knuckles, she is looking out for him.

Xiomara feels that her religion is forced on her and that she can't do anything because she is in debt to God. For example it states on page 12-15, "A friend I just think I don't think I need anymore...my life would be easier if I didn't feel like such a debt to a God that don't really seem to be out here checking for me." This shows how Xiomara thinks that God isn't really there for her, and she just feels forced to pray to him and go to church because she feels like she owes God. She thinks that everything that she does/has to do circles around her religion and she doesn't think she wants or needs that in her life anymore.

As Xio grows up she finds out more and more of what it's like to be a woman and how much different it is than being a man. She finds out all of the things that guys say about woman and she kind of feels grossed out being a woman with the certain comments and things guys say and do to her when shes in school. On page 46 it states, "..I already had to curse a guy out for pulling on my bra strap, then shoved a senior into a locker for trying to whisper into my ear. "Big body joint," they say "we know what girls like you want." And I'm disgusted at myself for the slight excitement that shivers up my back." This evidence shows that Xio is struggling with the gross and rude comments and actions of these men who have no reason to harass her like that. She says that she feels disgusted with herself since she doesn't necessarily like the attention she gets from guys, but her body send signals that could say otherwise although she doesn't really feel that way about those things happening to her.

Xiomara relationship with religion isn't really the best. On page 14 it states, " about the capital G.O.D about a holy trinity that don't include the mother It's all the things just seems as I got older i began to really see the way that church treats a girl like me differently sometimes it feels all I'm worth is under my skirt." This shows that Xiomara really isn't connected to her religion and hasn't been willing to learn the "holy way"

on page 45 its tells us

"and the twins eyes would meet mine across the room i never told her he didn't fight because my hands became fists for him my hands learned how to bleed when other kids tried to make him into a wound"

this shows us that she is a bit different from other girls. most girls dont like to fight and just dont do anything but she is different because she helps her brother out and protects him.

The relationship between Xiomara and her mom is difficult because the religion of god is to important to her mom. On Page 42 it says" So after school I eat an apple- my favorite snack-wash dishes, and sweep. Dust around Mami's altar to La Virgen Maria and avoid Papi's TV if he's home because he hates when I clean infront of it while he's trying to watch las noticias or a Red Sox game. It's one of the few things Twin and I argue about, how he ever has to do half the cleaning shit i do but it still better liked by Mami. He helps me when he's home, folds the laundry or scrubs the tub. But he won't get in trouble if he doesn't. I hear one of Mami's famous sayings in my ear, " Mira, Muchacha, life ain't fair, that's why we have to earn our enterance into heaven."
