I think this means that we need to embrace our own opinions without worrying about what others live by. We need pay attention to the events that are surrounding us and not be afraid to speak the truth.

This resonates with me because I think it is worded greatly and has a really good meaning behind it. I think it's important that have our own opinions and not worry about what societies expectations have for us. Its important we express our opinions because they hold power and meaning.

They get caught up with the fear that they will repeat their previous mistakes. This mindset stops people from progressing. Furthermore, people are also judged for their past decisions by others who can't look past what has already happened. This furthers the self-doubt in a person.

This resonates with me because this quote is very true. I sometimes get scared that I will repeat the same mistakes which makes me hesitate. I also doubt if others will learn to trust me and see my for who I am, not my past failures.

I believe that Emerson has a point in saying that we should rally behind this cause for a moral society especially because not doing anything is dangerous. However, I do not necessarily believe in the “transcendent destiny”. I believe we should do good in society because its nature is good, not to elevate ourselves in the sense that transcends normal life.
