Smog is the combination of smoke and fog in the atmosphere. When certain gases in the air react with sunlight, it can create a thick, brownish haze called photochemical smog.

https://www3.epa.gov/airnow/health/smog.pdf
https://goo.gl/images/n44Q78

When the smog level is high, it can settle over a city, creating a dirty haze. Potential threats to humans include breathing trouble, throat irritation, and burning eyes. Major sources of smog are gases emitted by motor vehicles.
https://goo.gl/images/veP64h

Ozone: The Cause of Smog

Ground level ozone is the leading cause of health risks due to smog. Ground level ozone is produced when emissions react with sunlight to produce smog. The AQI, or Air Quality Index, is a good chart to check if you are impacted by dangerous levels of ground level ozone. People with asthma should constantly be aware of ground level ozone numbers to protect against asthma attacks brought on by smog.
https://goo.gl/images/g8nd5v

Smog is a global warming side effect that can be fixed. Humans should work to emit less greenhouse gases like emissions from vehicles. Factories and other major causes should also hold themselves to higher standards and reverse the emissions they've released into the atmosphere. Less greenhouse gas emissions would definitely lessen the effects of smog/ground level ozone.
https://goo.gl/images/d9GgV1
