I worked with people at the venue to learn the ins and outs of the set up process, collaberating to find the best way to set the the dj equipment and again when doing the sound check. I learnt how the decks where wired to the the PA system! This was a really enjoyable part of the showcase module as i love seeing how different gear is set up in different locations!

This image shows the set up of the DJ equipment and where it is currently placed in relation to the rest of the venue. As you can see there cables running to the PA system run over the top of the wall. on the other side they are hanging down and could be seen as a trip hazard, this is something that could be rethought for the final performance!

In this video i was mixing to tracks from my set list, just to get an idea of how the mixer in the venue was outputing sounds and the volumes. This was very helpful as we were able to make some adjustments to the levels, this massively enhanced the performance. Some elements the first time round such as the high ends where to low and being over powered by the low ends, learning these skills have been helpful for sets of my own outside of Waterbear.

STAGE PRESENCE

Stage presense has always been something i have found quite natural as a DJ, in this image i am trying out different body movements and energy to build energy within the crowd and performance. As a DJ this is easily one of the most important parts of performing, as the crowd tends to feed of the energy being created by the performer!

Again in this photo just testing various things as the equipment belongs to the venue and im not familiar with it and the way it behaves, its important to test things like the looping fx would as they should aswell as the jog wheels and that quantise is working well and songs aren't jumping out of grid.

AXEL DJ SET STAGE PLAN

Its important to have a clear stage plan, to make it easy for the set up crew at the venue to understand what i need to perform and where it needs to be placed on stage. This stage plan clearly shows the audience in relation to the rest of the set up. being a DJ there isnt many elements, it important to bare in mind the placement of the performer and there equipment in relation to the audience as this can be the difference between a good energetic performance and a bad one.

JAMES HYPE TECH SPEC (RIDER)

James Hype a DJ and producer from Liverpool, his rider is quite different to most DJs as he requires different equipment. He DJs unlike most, his rider includes 1 x DJM9000 3x CDJ 2000 the older model as in this video he states hes found the newer equipment slower and unreliable. The equipment at the venue matches what Hype uses, except i will be using just 2 CDJ not 3. Hype is plugged into club PA systems, similarly to me at the venue! He also has control of the output through the PA through the mixer.

Lighting again is provided by the clubs for him as will be at the venue, however the artist does have say over how the lighting is presented to the audience. Lighting in a venue is probably the most important part of a DJ showcase
