Heebie-Jeebies: The jitters, freaked out, shivers, or nerves

(Also the name of a song by Louis Armstrong)

It would be used in the 1920's to describe something that really scared you or freaked you out. Like a scary movie (becasue the movie industry was booming) or something spooky (like a scary radio show)

Example: "I wish your brother would take of that Halloween mask, it's really giving me the heebie-jeebies!"

The Phantom of Opera was a silent thriller movie made in 1925 that was probably scary for some people. When they would talk about it with their friends, they would use the word heebie-jeebies to describe how they felt during the scary parts.

This word was used in the 1920s to describe the new generation of women who wore short dresses, make-up, and short hair. This word specifically described the age group of of young women in their adolescent stage.

Cheaters: cheaters is a term used to describe the glasses worn by some people in the 1920s. Many optometrists would cheat thier patients out of a lot of money by encouraging them to by a more expensive pair of glasses when the patient does not actually need that type of glasses. Sometimes the glasses would only help a person a little bit, it would be like being able to read something at 10 ft away but now you can read it at 12ft away.
