He had told his people to stop fighting each other, and arguing, and focus on the real problem, the real enemy at hand. The Muslims. With the Vast Success of the First Crusade. The pope began the Second Crusade in 1147, which spanned to 1149.  This crusade was directed towards the City of Edessa, in Mesopotamia, This city had fallen 3 years before, to Muslims. After the Second Crusades Success, the Third Crusade followed, in 1189 to 1192. This crusade was initiated by Western European Christians. This Crusade was focused on attempting to Retake the Crusader states in the Levant. Which was also known as the City of Jerusalem. Which was conquered by the Ruthless, Heartless, Muslim Leader Saladin. There were in total, 9 Crusades. They spanned More than two centuries of pure war, fighting, and blood.
