Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L Holm

This book is about a girl named Turtle who moves to Key West, Florida with her many cousins and relatives during the Great Depression in the early 1930s. She has to move there because her mom is living with and working for someone who hates kids, but that is the only place that she can get a job. I gave this book a thumbs down because the story wasn't very interesting, and the scenes that were important were almost just glazed over, the author also put little detail into these scenes as well as character development. And for me, it was hard to keep track of all of the different characters because the book just keeps on adding them in. Now, if you are looking for a fun, short book to read then this is the one for you, if not then just read something else.

-Zach Mangino

The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

This book is about a boy in a concentration camp in Germany during the holocaust in 1941. While Helmuth is in his cell he is having flashbacks about when he was a kid. During the story he is leading up to why he was put in the cell. I think the main character is an ok character he has a lot of personality in the flashbacks and he is written like how an actual kid acts and thinks, but I am giving this book a thumbs down because it was a very slow paced book. For example at one point one second was written over a span of three pages; in my opinion there are much better books than this.

-Josh Meltzer

The Keeping Room-Anne Myers (Brody Fusco)

The book is about a boy in earlier America during the revolutionary war. After his dad leaves to fight in the war the main protagonist Joey is left to look after the house. My review of this book would be a 6.5/10. While the book had lots of potential to be great. There where many moments where the characters actions felt out of character. This makes it difficult to connect with the character.

(Personal opinion) This book is about a girl named Annie Marie and her best friend Ellen Rosen. In this book these two friends and aniimaries family are trying to escape the nazi's beacuse Ellen is jewish and the nazi's soldiers think jew's are bad people. The reason i dislike this book is because there is not much action going on and at it was just overall boring. a book that I recommend is Grenade by Alan Gratz this book has a lot more action in the book and a unique writing style. source: BarnesandNobles.com
-Zach Lyon
