         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Assessment<br></strong><br></div><div>One school in our group does not assess, so they don’t have to be concerned about that aspect.&nbsp; (Is that the shift we all need??)<br><br></div><div>Up until now we have associated good writing with good education and good thinking. We will need to separate critical thinking from good writing. &nbsp;<br><br></div><div>If students feel like their voice is critical...that can't be replicated by AI.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Humanities faculty is very concerned about final assessments and papers. Convos around all student writing being done in the classroom. This is especially an issue in schools with students who have high expectations for where they are going to college.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Schools who focus on critical thinking are in a good spot vs. schools who just focus on getting you into college. How does this match with your school's core values?&nbsp; Look at your mission and figure out where you land on this.<br><br></div><div>Do we need to shift what/how we are teaching? How do we do this quickly?? &nbsp;<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>Support acknowledgement<br></strong><br></div><div>How to coach students to acknowledge what support they got? We don't ask students whether they have grammarly on or off. Whether they are on ADHD medication. In honorable use, when do you say you got help and how do you acknowledge the source of that help? At home, parents help. Tutors help.&nbsp; AI makes it more of a level playing field for those without helpful parents or tutors. &nbsp;<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>Effects<br></strong><br></div><div>Technology is both good and evil. Our challenge is to find a way to use it for good. How will this help us to teach kids?&nbsp; How can this be used for good in the classrooms? E.g, you can plug in code you have written and it will find errors in the code.&nbsp; That can be good. (but could be used for evil - for hacking). &nbsp;<br><br></div><div>We need to remind our students it still takes a human to analyze.<br><br></div><div>We probably need to redefine plagiarism and what is original content. Teachers need to look at the learning outcomes.&nbsp; Skills over product. A tool like this could give a voice to someone who doesn't have one or who has a language barrier. How we as teachers judge a piece of writing or what is submitted, what are we evaluating? We've been doing it the same way for a long time.&nbsp; The calculator was once taboo and now it's required. If this becomes a tool in the toolbelt (it will), do we have to start with a fight? Or do we look inward and look at it with a different lens.<br><br></div><div>Look at the tools we accept for people with learning differences.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>AI potential bias is a concern.<br><br></div>]]></description>
