Education for women did make some progress. In 1837, Ohio's Oberlin College became the first college to accept women, in addition to men. The whole reason we needed them was to make sure all types of people in America got a good education, and coud be educated voters.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> The second great awakening launched a push for mandatory, free, public education. Reformers taught normal school subjects and moral principals and civics. In 1937, Horace Mann created grade levels, common standards and mandatory attendance to make sure that all citizens could become educated voters. </div>]]></description>
