We chose the jungle in the story The Most Dangerous Game, it represents General Zaroff's twisted and dark mind. We know this because on page 19 it says, "Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs. What perils that tangle of trees and underbrush might hold for him did not concern Rainsford just then." At this moment in the story, Rainsford had just washed up onto the island jungle after he had fallen off of the yacht he was on. This can relate to the symbol because of how General Rainsford is similar to the jungle, anonymous and untrustworthy They can both be described as chaotic and distorted.

The most prominent symbol in the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" is the jungle. This symbol represents the dark and twisted mind of General Zaroff. The jungle has natural taps like the sand pits and is hot and all around an unpleasant. Rainsford first finds the jungle when he washes up on the shore of the Island. It does not bother him at first, but when he meets and talks with Zaroff, he finds out the unfortunate truth.
For his own sake, Rainsford has to participate in the game of cat and mouse in order to survive. As the story progresses, Rainsford's situation gets worse and is further entangled in Zaroff's plans. He is forced to play along and gets deeper into the jungle representing him seeing more and more of Zaroff's personality. By the end of the story, Rainsford manages to survive and faces off with the psychopathic man. By how the last sentence is worded, "He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided," probably the best conclusion is that Rainsford won and was able to leave the jungle symbolizing breaking free from Zaroff's evil clutches.
