Leatherback turtles live in the Atlantic, Pacific , and Indian Oceans. A lot of Leatherbacks feed off the Eastern coast of Canada. These turtles might migrate as far as South America during the wintertime.

Leatherback turtles eat soft prey like jellyfish and slaps. They don't have teeth, but they have sharp cusps to grab their prey. They also have spines in their throat and mouth that helps them to swallow their prey. Also, they may eat other small invertebrates such as crustaceans, squid and urchins.

Because of the large size of this reptile, it does not have a lot of predators in their natural habitat. In some cases large sharks and orcas attack them if they do not find what they normally eat. But the worst predator that sea turtles face are humans, which causes their mortality in many ways.

Each year, hundreds of sea turtles are accidentally caught in big nets. Although they are released, but when they are found, most of them are already dead.

Most sea turtle have a hard shell that helps protect them from predators, but the leatherback has a soft shell. They are so large that they are only in danger from the largest predators (and man).

Humans can help protect turtles in 5 simple ways. 1. Turn Out Lights Visible From the Beach. 2.Reduce the Amount of Garbage You Produce and Clean Up Trash
You See On the Beach. 3. Be Aware of Sea Turtle Nesting Areas and Avoid Nesting and
Hatching Turtles. 4. Reduce the Amount of Chemicals You Use. 5. Volunteer to help protect turtles.
