It allows the teacher to reflect on their strategies and determine if the outcome was positive or may need improvement. 
"Teachers must reflect on their
broad goals for instruction and communicate them to the coach. What do they expect from the students in the subject area? Is it to become better problem solvers?" (Yopp, 2013).

The coach and the teacher need to be clear on what strategies or specific points the teacher wants help/support with as well as how much interaction the coach will have with the teacher throughout the lesson.
For example, if a coach is observing a lesson and is asked how to explain something differently without any prior knowledge that the teacher would ask this question, then the coach is not prepared to provide the adequate feedback.
