  • Summary - The Chinese were struggling to free themselves from foreign control and building a strong and modern nation with a government to represent the people. Sun Yat-sen, the leader of the revolution died in 1925, but the movement for government in China was still far away from its goal. The West helped to bring about the Chinese Revolution by putting them into contact with Western education in China that helped them realize that China must develop a strong government along Western lines if it was to take its place in the modern world. That education provided much of the leadership and the money for a nationalist movement which came to be organized under the name of the National People’s Party, or, in Chinese, the Kuomintang.

  • Summary- Time period where the US and its allies supported Berlin after Russia closed all their railroads, canals, and highways. Due to the blockage of Berlin, life essentials such as food, clothing, and water were dwindling, leaving its people in starvation. Seeing this the US and their allies thought outside the box and airlifted needed supplies into Berlin. This process lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin.

    It starts October 29, 1956 – November 7, 1956 
     Brief Summary  
    Suez Crisis was the result of the American and British not resolving the finance of Egypt's construction of the Aswan High Dam, in return for Egypt's growing ties with communists like the  Soviet Union. President Gamal Nasser reacted by declaring service law in the canal zone and taking control of the Suez Canal Company. The efforts to settle the crisis failed, and Britain and France secretly prepared military action to regain control of the canal and, if it was possible, to depose Nasser. Suez Crisis threatened regional stability and challenged the U.S. relationship with two primary Cold War allies, Britain and France.

    The SALT Agreement is a treaty set between the United States and The Soviet union. Both countries meet to agree on an amount of missiles each side could have. There were two different treaties, SALT 1 and SALT 2. The first one was signed by Leonid Brezhnev and Richard Nixon. After Richard Nixon stepped down from his presidential status, the new president, Carter, had to sign the treaty so it was still in tact. Instead of re-signing the first treaty, they decided to make a second one. The second agreement considered similar rules but they added a few more including the limitations on vehicles that carried bombs, and the bombs/nukes themselves.

    The First Revolution Got Rid of the Manchus 
    • During these years the Nationalists, under Sun Yat-sen, were slowly gaining popular support, but realized that they needed help from abroad in order to overthrow the war lords and set up a strong central government 
     
    The Second Revolution United China 
    • The struggle between the Chinese Communists and the government lasted from 1928 to 1937, when a United front was formed to face the growing menace of Japan. 
     
    Preparing for the Storm 
    • Great advances were made in education, medicine and public health, in banking, mining and engineering, in communications, and in industry. Rapid extension of road and rail communications met both strategic and economic needs. 
    • The new government rapidly extended its authority, over North China, but when Manchuria joined the national government it was a political event of the first importance, for not only had Manchuria long been known for its political separatism, but Japan had special interests therein the way of railway and mining concessions.
