<title>Claudette was a pioneer of the civil rights movement. She refused to give up her seat on the bus in a segregated society on March 2, 1955. Even though she did this before Rosa Parks they didn&#39;t acknowledge it because she was underage &amp; had gotten pregnant.</title>

<title>At the time when Colvin was forced to go give her seat on the bus &amp; she refused, she stated that &quot; The spirit of Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth was in me. I didn&#39;t get up.&quot; This led her to get dragged off the bus, charged with disorderly conduct, violating the segregation ordinance, assault and battery(clawing officer), and thrown in a jail cell until her minister and mother came with her bail.</title>

<title>&quot;I feel very, very proud of what I did. I do feel like what I did was a spark and it caught on.&quot;[21] &quot;I&#39;m not disappointed,&quot; Colvin said. &quot;Let the people know Rosa Parks was the right person for the boycott. But also let them know that the attorneys took four other women to the Supreme Court to challenge the law that led to the end of segregation.&quot; stated Claudette. <title>Claudette was adopted by Q. P. Colvin and Mary Anne Colvin. Her mother was a maid and her father mowed lawns. Her first experience in segregation at the age of 4 is when her and her mom was at a store and she decided to touch hands to compare them with a white boy and her mom slapped her in the face.</title>
