Starrs friend drags her to this party that she doesnt even wanna be at. So later at the arty Starrs old friend Khalil comes up to her and the gunshots go off so they run out an she leaves with him. In chapter two , they get pulled over. After Khalil and the cop bicker i guess back a fourth , the officer tells him to get out of the car. Her parents came to get her and take her home.While shes asleep , she has nightmares and one of them is when she was 10 and her and her friend Natasha were outside playing and a car drove by and shot Natasha killing her. In chapter four , it starts out with it being late at night and she wakes up from another nightmare , as shes walking to the kitchen she hears her parents and her uncle , whos a cop, talking. Her uncle thinks she should talk to the police and explain what happened that night so they get the whole story . Later in the chapter , her and her parents go see Khalil grandmother and aunt , they dont know where his mom is because shes a drug addict . For a while she just hangs out with her friend and then she sees her boyfriend . Theyre in a fight but he walks up to her trying to say sorry but when he touches her arm she flinches because her boyfriend is white and so when he touches her she hears the gunshot that killed Khalil and walks off. In chapter six , Monday is the day Starr has to talk to the cops about what happened that night. So her and her mom arrive to the station. They see her uncle and he walks them to the room where the people are waiting to talk to Starr. As a joke Starr and her friends start singing "Get Your Head In The Game¨ from High School Musical. They decided to go down there and show the girls how to play cause they are on the basketball team. After a while something just hits Starr and she starts crying so the coach tells her to go to the office. Starr called her uncle to come her her .In chapter eight , its the day of the funeral. When they get there and sign in , the go to the casket to see Khalil. Its hard on Starr. Then they sit and the preacher starts talking. Some trouble happened when some GDs , another gang in Garden Heights , came up to Starr and Seven. But Sevens friend Vantea came up and made them leave. The Starr and Seven got in trouble for leaving the house. Later they go to her uncles house. In Chapter Ten they get back to their house. Starr goes to the store and helps her dad. Next thing you know Vanta comes running in the store and we find out he done stuff and king is after him . After the new teams leaves , Starrs dad goes over and kinda yells at Mr. Lewis for snitching. Then some cops come up and get on to Starrs dad and makes him get on the ground in front of his kids. In chapter twelve is basically Starrs friends trying to apologize for protesting and someone wanting Starr to talk about what happened the night Khalil died. She tells her she would be very glad to represent her and let her get heard. But Starr doesnt want anyone to know its her. So Starrs dad takes him to her uncles house who doesnt live in Garden Heights so hed be safe. While theyre there, Starrs boyfriend shows up because he lives right down the road. Her dad doesnt know theyre dating cause hes white so he gets mad and leaves. In chapter fourteen , Starr goes over to Myas house , who lives right down the road from her uncles. Hailey is over there so she thinks Hailey will say sorry about the racist comment and the protest. After just sitting there for a while , Starr brings it up and her and Hailey get into a fight and Haiely leaves. Later she goes to the DA and talks about that night. She gets really over whelmed and she ends up leaving . When they get home later , her dad tells them that hes getting them out of Garden Heights and theyre moving.  In chapter 16 Starr does an interview with a national news program. It went way better then when she talked to the DA. He was upset because she didnt talk to him about it. They then started talking about it and opened up to him about her Garden Heights life that she was embarrassed about. In chapter eighteen , they go see the new house they might be getting if everything checks out . Later they get home and eat dinner. Then they hear gun shots and glass falling. Someone had shot at their ask and threw a brick in the window. In chapter twenty its two weeks after she talked to the grand jury. She goes to school and everyone found out shes was with him the night Khalil was killed. Hailey being the brat she is started running her mouth and Starr got fed up with it and hit her. Starr and Hailey got into a fight and next thing you know , Haileys brother pulls Starr back and called her some names i cant type and then Seven , Starrs brother , came behind him a started fighting him. After awhile , Seven calls saying King found Vantea. As there walking to a gas station they see another protest and they join. Starr gets up and starts talking abot what happened. Things again get out of control and they leave and run to the store. Everybody around said that King starte the fire and he was aressted. In chapter 26 , Starr and her family are cleaning up the shop and trying to get all the things that fell and burned up. Mr.Lewis said he was leaving and told Starrs dad he could also have his shop so whne he re bulit his , he could have two.
