Chapter 11 is about Alyce getting asked by Emma Blunt's son Matthew to help Emma deliver her baby. While Alyce tries to deliver it without the Midwife or Will to help her she gives up and ends up failing. The midwife then comes and helps the baby to be born but then Alyce gets upset and ran away.

The internal conflict she is facing at the beginning of chapter 11 is not knowing if she will be able to help the mother give birth without Jane and Will telling her what to do. She also hasn't practiced it. You know this because she starts feeling hopeless and says she cannot do it.

The pacing shows how Alyce is feeling because its fast and gives suspense as she is trying her hardest to help deliver this baby.

Another thing Alyce struggles with in this chapter is the pressure she has when this Matthew boy is expecting her to deliver this baby even though Emma didn't believe she could do it at the start. Her place on the social hierarchy shows her experiences with doing stuff and trying to do stuff, because she doesn't have that many friends and its more as if she is working for someone. These people still think of her as a dung beetle so no one has faith in her that she can do this.

#1 . In chapter 11 Alyce is trying to help a woman who is giving birth but the baby does not come out. Alyce calls for the midwife but she is mad at Alyce for "stealing" her job opportunities and is embarrassed and calls Alyce a traitor. Because of this, Alyce flees the village.

#2. She faces not knowing how to properly birth a baby because she did not have experience like the midwife or the proper herbs and lotions.

#3. The pacing of the story is slow at point to build suspense and fast at other times when skimming over random details.

#4. Alyce struggles with the fact that she does not know how to help a woman give birth and that she doesn't know where she will go when she flees the town because she does not want to have to face the midwife and her anger. Her place in social hierarchy influences her experiences because she was in very deep poverty but she worked very hard and slowly started to build a reputation and earn an income as opposed to if she was a noble or higher, she would have never had to work or she would have had her job served to her on a silver platter.

1.) In chapter 11 a women requests that Alyce would help her deliver her baby but Alyce realizes that the midwife doesn't have magic she has skill and fails to help the woman. Alyce now feels disappointment within herself and she decides that she should run away.

2.) In the beginning of the chapter Alyce believes that shes capable to help deliver the baby but then when Alyce found out that its very hard because she has never done this without help from Jane of Will

3.) The pacing shows how fast Alyce's emotions change and it shows how shes trying really hard

4.)Alyce also struggles with knowing she could not help the woman give birth and also how shes running away . Her social hierarchy affects this because Alyce is not that high of a social class so since she could not help the woman she feels even more upset with herself

How do you know?

The internal conflict Alyce faces at the beginning is her not knowing if she could deliver a baby without any help.

3)How does the pacing of that scene affect your understanding of Alyce’s conflict?

The pacing gives the story suspense and how worried she is that she will mess up. It affects my understanding of her because she is accidentally skipping steps in the process of delivering the baby.

4)What other conflict does Alyce struggle with in this chapter? How does her place in the social hierarchy influence her experiences?

Alyce struggles with he fact that she does not know how to deliver a baby without someone helping/ coaching her though it. Her place in the hierarchy influence her experience because she had to build her self up for the ground up and now this will badly affect her social class because her first time delivering a baby on her own she fails
