The Media Team group of children worked really well together. They formed realationships with each other and produced a great movie on imovie. They learnt new skills and also learnt from each other.

Again there was discussion over the idea of crossing the boundaries between home and school and communities of practice. There were interesting discussions over how we assess children normally measured in numbers and comparison tables but should we be measuring their motivation, engagement and curiousity levels. The ipad session I attended also talked about leveling the apps so taking it beyond using just one app but building on it. Using one app like educreations then transferring the info into puppet pals then onto another app. I guess this is like Blooms layering until the thinking is of a higher level or skill level.

There was a lot of discussion surrounding the changes in education and the way that we are delivering the curriculum. It was interesting to hear links to the idea of communities of practice in a different scenario as well as encouraging children to learn in ways that interest them and moving away from ability grouping.

Robyn and I also ran a workshop on ICT in a junior classroom. It was great to be able to share our ideas with others. We were also able to connect with other schools who are very keen to get together with Vardon to continue the e-learning journey.

Brian Annan was really interesting. His keynote was very timely following our focus on communities of change at Maketu Marae. Lorelei and I did a workshop and had a number of people come to listen. Several schools were wanting help to set up workable systems in their classrooms using PC's and Ipads and we were able to share lots of our experiences

The talk about Ipads, and the idea that an app needs to escape the Ipad in order to be most effective. We need to be able to get the information out there and share it. That we also need to audit their apps and make sure there are not too many practise apps, but those for problem solving, collaboration and creation as well.

The Media team was great to work with. They were focused and overcame their fear of approaching the teachers.

The movie they created was awesome and the skills of each child grew throughout the activities and the day.
