The 1980's saw a huge increase in production quality from past productions. This also was the time period where some of the all time great animes came out such as "Sailor Moon" as-well as "Dragon Ball"

This video is great and really showed me about anime during that time period. I am not very educated on anime or the history so this is a great beginners video.

How did anime change in the 1980s and why was it so important?

The 1980s really brought a whole new era of production to anime. There was a turn from independant studios to large high budget studios. The Japanese economy at the time was doing really good which led to Japanese pop culture gaining popularity. VHS also helped fuel popularity so that the shows can be majorly distributed at an international level.

With the rise of different studios came the rise of famous creators as-well. I liked the point made about how many well known anime's came out in the 1980s. During this time we also saw the different anime sub-genres come about so the genre had lots of different variety. Some sub-genres within anime are sci-fi, Fantasy, adventure, and romance. Very similar to genres we have in popular American society.

With the strong economy in Japan and the whole industry as a whole developing, it was the golden age for the expansion of anime. During this time we saw even more dedicated fans and fandoms starting to develop because of the global popularity of anime on the rise.

The 1980s clearly was a very important time for anime and for anime becoming how popular it is today. Many of the creators that were making anime in the 1980s left a lasting mark on the industry that new series are inspired by their former colleagues.
