The ancient Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians all developed great empires in the region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. At later times, it was ruled by the Greeks, the Romans, the Persians, and the Ottoman Turks.<br><strong>1990</strong> - On 2 August 1990 the Iraqi Army invaded and occupied Kuwait, which was met with international condemnation and brought immediate economic sanctions against Iraq by members of the UN Security Council. Together with the UK prime minister </div><div><strong>2003</strong> -The <strong>Iraq</strong> War was a protracted armed conflict that began in 2003 with the invasion of <strong>Iraq</strong> by a United States-led coalition that overthrew the government of Saddam Hussein. ... <strong>Iraqi</strong> forces were quickly overwhelmed as U.S. forces swept through the country.</div><div><strong>2008</strong> - 1 March – Twenty-nine U.S. troops died in <strong>Iraq</strong> during February <strong>2008</strong>, the third-lowest total of the nearly five-year-old war. 3 March – A pair of car bombings targeting <strong>Iraqi</strong> security forces killed at least 18 people and wounded dozens in Baghdad.</div>]]></description>

He was arrested in 1979 by the Ba'athist regime twice on charges of involvement in the Kurdish national movement by taking some photos of protestors in Sulaimaniya city and spent 43 days in detention in a Special Investigation Commission prison in Kirkuk where he was tortured.Once released, he finished high school and left Iraq for the United Kingdom to flee continuous persecution.</div><div><strong>Economy: </strong>Capitalism</div>]]></description>
