For many people, digital curation is a new idea but in fact, it is a process that educators have been doing for a long time.  For example, archeologists have served in dual roles both as “scientists and cultural resource managers” (Christenson, 1979, p. 161). 
In the same way, university professors accomplish two roles: One as content collectors of their discipline and transmitters of that content to the future generations.
