Percy Jackson, a son of the sea god Poseidon, wants to pet-sit Hecate's polecat, Gale, and hellhound, Hecuba. However, Grover ate the forbidden strawberry ice cream that turned him into a deadly goat monster. As a monster, he freed Hecuba and Gale into the concrete jungle of Manhattan and destroyed Hecate's mansion. To catch them, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover find a hellpuppy, travel through shadow portals, fight naiads, and resurrect and fight architect ghosts. After the friends fix everything, they throw a Halloween party. At last, Percy earns his second college recommendation from Hecate.

"Because no matter where you go, your roots are where you're planted" (Riordan 321). This quote is important because is teaches Percy, Grover, and Annabeth that no matter where they go or where they are they'll always belong in New York.

In my book I had a text-to-text connection with the character Annabeth because Percy describes her as "a natural people person. Everybody wanted to hang out with her and get her approval" (Riordan 22). I can relate to this because I think that everybody wants to be around me, and they want to know what I think sometimes.

A conflict in my book Percy vs. Supernatural. While searching for Gale, he runs into naiad (freshwater spirits) twins who try to kill him because he destroyed their island. During the fight, one of the naiads threw a beast breath potion on Percy's arms. From the potion, Percy gained octopus arms. Percy and Gale brew an antidote to overcome it.

Grover is fighting guilt because he feels terrible that he destroyed Hecate's mansion and freed her pets. Percy tries not blaming him because he thinks that he shouldn't have left Grover alone with the unauthorized strawberry milkshake. Grover overcomes this by helping Percy capture Gale and Hecuba.

A lesson learned in my book is that Annabeth learns to not be overconfident and thinking she can do everything. After she fights the ghosts, she immediately regrets that she tried to control the ghosts by herself and she learns to not be overconfident.
