My concentration focuses on incorporating flowers into portraits of various people to convey a specific mood to the viewer. I will utilize the shape, textures, sizes, colors, and meanings associated with various flowering plants to convey the mood the pictures.

Charcoal was used for this piece. The plant on her head is hibiscus.

The leaves are drawn with dark charcoal values with the only highlights on them being from the light in the picture.

So this was just me experimenting with what i wanted to do with my concentration and it came out pretty well.

Charcoal drawing. Harlequin flowers are used in place of the subject's hair.

So basically, I just did the same thing as I did in the previous piece (Artist's Choice), but with a different subject and a different type of flower that matches her specific personality. This time i put more focus on the flowers than as a whole plant with stems and leaves.

So far I'm using pen for this piece. I chose lilies for this piece due to their unique shape to go along with the confused facial expression of the subject.

The girl's clothing and the lilies are drawn with lines whereas her face and neck are shaded following the contours of her skin. Although the shapes of the flowers and the wrinkles in her clothes are fairly large, they do not detract any attention from her expression.

This is a charcoal piece

This drawing will convey a more calm, but somber mood. The girl is laying on her stomach on the ground with a tired look on her face. I put the light source behind her so that a dark shadow could be cast over the bottom half of her face. The shadow was intended to establish the hopeless feeling the subject expresses.

This piece, unlike the rest, does not have many flowers with the exception of the wilted white petals laying around one of the stems in the foreground

This piece is the first of my concentration pieces that uses color pencil. I thought to myself, "If I'm going to have a concentration based on flowers and plants, I should probably start adding color to get a better effect out of them."

Also, this piece is the first piece using only flower on top of the sujects head instead of multiple. I wanted to see what it wouild be like if the person was the flower themself.

Earlier in Concentration 2, the flowers used in the subjects hair were lilies. However because the piece was in pen, I was not able to express the bright warm colors seen in the panther lily. This piece I want to be able to replicate the fiery colors of the panther lily to express the mood feeling in this piece.

(When I uploaded this the picture looks squished and I don't know why. It should look fine when you click on it though.)

This is piece is done in ball point pen. The type of flowers portrayed are orchids. Orginally, I wanted to do the orchids and shirt in color (preferebely lavender or purple). However when i tried practicing coloring the orchids, they did not look good, so I decided to just continue in pen.
