Broaks Wood spans 62 hectares and features over 5 miles of overlapping, unpaved pathways managed by Forestry England. While there is no complex network of multiple distinct colour-coded trails, you can follow two main routing options directly from the car park:

The Main Walking Trail (1.5-mile Loop): This is the primary waymarked circular trail. It is a relatively flat, easy-going walk that passes through the ancient woodland sections. You can view or download user-vetted route details on the AllTrails Broaks Wood Short Circular Map.

The Full Boundary Trail (2.4-mile Loop): A longer perimeter route that explores Shardlow's Wood, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the local farmland, and the Giant Redwood Grove. Navigation Tips:

Waymarkers: Look for the wooden post markers starting immediately at the edge of the gravel car park.

Locating the Redwoods: The grove of towering North American Giant Redwoods is located in the western portion of the woods, a short walk from the main entrance track.

Terrain Warning: The lesser-travelled side trails feature small old footbridges and narrow glades.

I'm delighted that you're joining myself and Mark Draper from MD Photography for a wonderful evening of Golden Hour and Twilight photography on 7th August 2026.

Please arrive promptly and be ready to start by 6pm.

The workshop finishes at 10pm.

Mark will assist you to get the very best out of your camera, or phone, but please ensure you have one or the other and if needed they are fully charged, have adequate memory space and are ready to go!

Please be advised that there are NO toilet facilities at Broaks Wood and wearing sensible comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for traipsing around a woodland and uneven terrain is the best option.

You may like to bring a torch, a refreshment or a snack.

Parking Details:

Cost: Free.

Access: Located directly off Hedingham Road / A1017, northwest of Gosfield Road

Condition: The dirt track leading from the main road into the woodland parking lot is heavily rutted and filled with deep potholes. Drive very slowly.

Capacity: It is a relatively small, basic gravel a

rea without height barriers.
