         <description><![CDATA[<p>The alkaline earth metals are all types of metals. Calcium can be combined with certain elements and create chalk all of the alkaline metals react with the halogens to make the alkaline earth metal halides. All of the alkaline earth metals can react with water except beryilum to form alkaline hydroxide which needs to be handled with care</p><p>FUN FACTS- magnesium and calcium are found in some foods&nbsp;Magnesium and calcium have a number of uses, ranging from building to being found in some foods and dietary systems. &nbsp;Barium and beryllium&nbsp;are used to make&nbsp;jewelry&nbsp;or are some times used for&nbsp;medicine, while strontium is&nbsp;mostly used in fireworks. Radium, on the other hand, is rarely used outside of labs, partially because its radioactive&nbsp;parts are&nbsp;hazardous to human life.
