Peer reviewed Paper: Article on cardiovascular effects in repsonse to red bull consumption

I found this article fascinating because of how they experimented using healthy people and water as a constant. The people who drank the water before the arithmetic test were unaffected but those who had drank the can of energy drink were effected so much that there was a rise on BPM, heart rate, stroke volume and cerebral blood flow velocity. This shows the short term effects that energy drinks have on a person but not the long term. If you can be effected this much over 5 minutes I would hate to see the long term effects of someone who consumes multiple cans a day. This is the reason as to why I added this to my lesson, being able to show students how dangerous something that is advertised as being helpful for your work ethic is important for their understanding and future plans.

I was interested in how much open discussion impacted the students and their willingness to improve their attitudes. The importance of critical thinking is vital for students now and in society in the future. There is a need of activists in our society and if by introducing open discussion and allowing students to have their own voices heard helps, I will gladly do so.

Activity 1: Jigsaw exercise

Exercise consists of splitting the class in 4, assignment a topic and giving them time to research the topic. After said time is up, students are asked to to present to the class. This way students get to hear about three other topics and also practice speaking in class out loud.

Activity 2: Experiment

Students will do the experiment about heart rate and pulse. This will keep students interested while also learning about science in a fun way.

Activity 3: Article proof reading

Students were split into two groups and given an article each to read. This helps them with being literate and working well with others. They will get the chance to give their opinion on the piece being saying it was factual, fake news, bias, unbiased etc. This is incorporating the Nature of Science into the topic. Students then get the chance to watch an advertisement which integrates technology in the classroom.
