For this public health submodule, I hope to have a deeper understanding on the different public health systems and how it is important to be cognizant of them as a future doctor.

After four years of studying under the BS Health Sciences program of the Ateneo de Manila University, I would say that I've more or less grasped a very deep understanding and appreciation of public health as both a science and an art at the same time. While I had initially thought of going into medicine just for the sake of it, I've worked a lot to develop my public health advocacy during my college years to understand what it means to be a health leader. Especially in my experiences being the Vice President for Public Health Relations of my home organization, the Health Sciences Society, and the School of Science and Engineering Representative of the Ateneo Sanggunian, I challenged myself to continuously explore and understand how health is manifested in many facets of our society and day-to-day routines, even if we can't necessarily see it in the surface level. I'm excited to learn more about the different perspectives and approaches to health and I hope to grow in the public health advocacy during my stay here in ASMPH! ^__^

For this submodule, I expect to learn a lot about health and the factors affecting it. I'm looking forward to applying these concepts to my life and also sharing what I've learned to others. Looking forward to meeting you all and learning with you all! :)

I'm Maria Kezaia Ysabelle R. Badilla, but please do call me Mikee! I recently graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences – a program I had initially chosen because it sounded cool 😆 I joined an organization during my stay in college that dealt with public health (s/o Project LAAN!), as it had always piqued my interest. However, I do know that I still have a lot to learn about the topic, especially since I want to become a medical doctor; thus, I expect to become enriched with additional knowledge on public health by the end of this submodule and in the years to come. In terms of pop culture, I love listening to the likes of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Laufey. I also enjoy watching sitcoms, with "Community" being one of my favorites!

Growing up, I was already exposed to the healthcare field because of my family and that's how I decided to pursue a medical career in the future. Eventually, in college, I was able to gain perspectives outside of only the hard sciences and I grew to advocate for the development of children, families, and communities that is healthy and holistic. They always say that it takes a village to raise a child but it is also these children who will be leading the villages in the future.

Aside from these, I like to stay active by playing sports, listening to and playing music, playing video games, and I looove powerful women in pop!

For this submodule, I'm looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding on what it truly means to study public health and how I can concretely achieve the goals of this course in ASMPH.

Hi! I’m Vicka and I am a graduate of Psychology from ADMU. I have always been interested in looking at health from a more well-rounded perspective, where different factors and social determinants all play a role in one’s well-being. I also have a fascination for the inner workings of the brain from both a psychological and physiological perspective, and enjoy learning about how the two intersect. In my undergrad thesis, I explored the use of mental health interventions to address substance use and improve coping in Filipino youth, which remains one of my advocacies and research interests today. As for pop culture, I love my pop and R&B girlies such as Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Ariana Grande, and Victoria Monét. I also enjoy watching TV shows (right now I’m watching The Bear!) and reading novels when I can. I look forward to broadening my knowledge and understanding of health and our healthcare system through an interdisciplinary lens!

In terms of extra curricular activities, I love to do indoor cycling and boxing. I also unwind by listening to music. I especially love 60s/70s soft pop and rock, and house music!

Apart from academics, I also love exercising. As the founder of the UP Run Club, we created a community open for all, and have met so many new people through that platform.

For this submodule, I expect to be further exposed to the hurdles that our fellow Filipinos have to go through, and be more inspired to create a difference in this country.

In my free time, I love watching movies, anime, tv series. I read books and I love journaling. On mornings I jog and take long leisure walks. I also try to go on mountain hikes when I have the time (and the funds).

Growing up in North Cotabato, I saw how my immediate and extended family, and even family friends were always hesitant to get treatment for their illnesses. This drove me to dream of giving proper access to healthcare for the underserved. I also saw similar stories in the target sectors of the organizations I was a part of in my undergrad. I hope I can be of service for them someday.

For this submodule, I hope to be able to learn more about our country's health system and what needs to be done. I hope to be slapped by the reality of our broken system so I can someday be a part of the solution.

As for my interests, I really enjoy getting to know new people and involving myself with communities, so that is how I spend the majority of my time. But otherwise, I catch up with different sports like the NHL and NBA! I also like going out and trying new things, recently, I started going to the gym and tried climbing again. I also like a range of music - Rap, Alt Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop, R&B, and Kpop!

In this submodule, I expect to learn more about my role as a future public health professional and how my journey towards being an Atenean doctor will prepare and hone me to be a competent public health leader.

During my internship in a government hospital, I witnessed patients and their relatives knock on pharmacy doors asking how to get medicines for free, or them looking hopeless as we told them the costs of their medicines. This, in addition to my undergraduate research that showed the existing lack of correct information in self-medication, made me an advocate of not only universal healthcare and financial protection to health, but also the promotion of health information-seeking behavior.

As an ASMPH student, I am approaching this submodule with great excitement. Since I lack public health exposure, I expect to have a better grasp of the country’s public health scene, hopefully through first hand experiences. 

In my free time, I love travelling, reading fantasy and sci-fi books, staying active both in the gym and ballet studio, and watching Studio Ghibli films 🫶🏻 I also work as a content creator on YouTube, but only when I have the time and energy to film and edit videos hehe. 

For this submodule, I am expecting to learn more about how public health, especially in the Philippine context specifically, is integrated into the MD-MBA curriculum. I am also looking forward to hopefully hearing about other students’ and alumni’s experiences with regards to this and how it has contributed to their growth as a doctor-leader.

Hi, my name is Sophia Ynez C. Luna, but people call me Ynez (sometimes Sophia). I come from Ateneo de Manila University BS Health Sciences. In terms of health, I'm interested in Cardiology; this is the specialty my father practices and I've always been interested in it growing up. It's a bit confusing, but I enjoyed reading about it the most during physiology in college.

For hobbies, I enjoy playing video games and watching shows within the fantasy genre. Recently, I've played and watched: Baldur's Gate 3, My Lady Jane, and Persona 3 Reload.

For this course, I expect a refresher on the topics I've learned in undergrad and to develop a deeper, more nuanced, and more detailed understanding of Public Health across the country.

As a sickness- and accident-prone child, a clinical or hospital setting is something I got used to early on, and in every visit, something about the environment always amused me. However more than just the physical setting, I always find myself at awe of the sight of all the medical practitioners carrying out their daily duties and tending to every patient at their disposal. Aside from the sheer amount of knowledge that they are able to hold and apply, it never ceases to amaze me how well they are able to connect with people that they have never even met before. Seeing the embodiment of integrity, empathy and dedication sparked a flame in younger me that led to where I am today.

Of course, growing up opened my eyes more to the challenges and rigor in attaining such a goal. More-so, it made me more aware of the flaws that exist within the medical system both locally and internationally. Hence, from merely wanting to become a doctor, I answered a call to be more than just that; to be part of the change to achieve a better living for everyone. I believe that the Public Health submodule will give us a glimpse on what it takes to achieve that. It was always said that knowing is half the battle, however now we must learn how to approach it. Integrating both medical and social concepts, I believe, is key to understanding the bigger picture of Public Health, especially in the Philippines.

My hobbies include gaming, reading YA novels, and going out randomly with friends. I love listening to the typical pop culture women like Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Chappell Roan.

This is a part in the transition module that I am most looking forward to because of my deep passion for public health. I know it would not be easy, but I am open to learning new things together with everyone else.

My interests and hobbies are quite varied. At the moment, I enjoy collecting Tamagotchis as well as practicing fiber arts (knitting and crocheting). I also love drawing, videogames (roguelikes, rhythm, fighting, RTS; currently addicted to Chunithm, Balatro, and Minecraft), vtubers, and professional wrestling. Taste in music is also very varied, from to 80s pop to 2000s EDM to J-pop/rock to various subgenres of metal (right now I love X JAPAN and Sabaton).

I expect this submodule to provide us a insightful perspective on the current state of health locally through direct exposure, which shall serve as the spark that will guide us in our journey into becoming well-rounded Atenean doctors and advocates for public health.

I’m interested to be inteoduced to public health in this transition module submidule as I don’t know a lot about this field.

As for my hobbies and interests, I love reading, swimming, crafting, and watching movies and shows! I particularly love doing really intense deep dives on cast interviews, production trivia, etc. after finishing a show or a movie.

For this submodule, I am looking forward to learning about on-the-ground public health efforts and initiatives, for my experience so far has been limited to more macro perspectives.

At a young age, I was constantly exposed to the field of medicine as both my parents are physicians. Although practicing in a private setting, I had fair chances of observing medical missions and charity cases in their clinics, which made me even more curious and interested in the field.

In college, I unfortunately was not able to take formal public health courses, but I was able to learn more of it and explore its deeper realities through my organization, the Pre-Medical Society of the Ateneo. With a partnership with Brgy. Tumana, Marikina, we were able to conduct ocular visits, medical missions, and aid support through constant communication with their health leaders. Additionally, I tried to learn more about the barangay through my courses in Social Science. Aside from this, I have learned a different perspective of public health through one of my classes in my last semester, Political Marketing.

In my free time, I love dancing, working out, playing games, and watching different TV series. I love exploring different restaurants and cafes, too.

For this submodule, I expect to learn the intricacies of public health in the country, and how it is going to be integrated with our MD-MBA curriculum. I hope to hear students' experiences with it, and especially those who pursued the field of medicine through public health.

I sought medicine because I have always aspired to have a more immediate role in patient care. I long for the opportunity to diagnose and treat patients and to be at the forefront of their healthcare journey. During the undergraduate internship, I had the chance to rotate in a public hospital. And there, I witnessed the realistic landscape of government hospitals: patients were confined in corridors because of lack of space; sanitary napkins were used as makeshift gauze and bandages due to lack of supplies; and lengthy patient queues were filled with an assortment of ailments with varying severity. Thus, I expect that in this submodule, we would be having discussions about how we can be substantial future MDs who can help alleviate these kinds of situations that are happening in public health settings.

In my free time, I love to watch movies, listen to new music, and try out different restaurants! 

For this submodule, I expect to gain deeper insights in relation to previous public health classes I had in undergrad. I also expect to have more direct opportunities to interact with partner communities and understand how concepts we learn in class are practiced in the real world and how we can play a part in influencing it for the better. 

My interests include playing different sports such as football, basketball, and swimming. In my free time, I also like to listen to music from genres such as Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B. Apart from this, I also like watching movies, anime, and different series.  

I graduated last year with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I love going outdoors and connecting with nature through camping and hiking! I also like to listen and play music and go wall climbing with friends.

I want to pursue a career in healthcare because I want to help mitigate the health disparities between the public and private health sectors in the Philippines and the world. Hopefully, this submodule may delve into the inequities plaguing the healthcare system in the Philippines, and I cannot be more excited to learn and enhance my passion for health and medicine!

When it comes to my expectations for this submodule, I am really excited to learn more about the realities of Public Health in the Philippine context and gain ideas on how we can navigate as doctor-leaders in such contexts in order to help as much people as possible, in the most impactful way.

My interest in medicine and health started when I first volunteered to help in a medical mission. It really gave me a new sense of hope and love for others through health. I also love watching K-dramas (if I have time) and listening to K-pop.

I am looking forward to learning more about the public health situation in the Philippines and I am excited to be able to hopefully, someday contribute to the betterment of our country’s health care system.

For this submodule, I look forward to learning more about the challenges and strategies involved in improving public health outcomes, especially in the context of underserved communities.

My current interests include makeup, fashion, anime, and gaming.

Aside from these, I’ve also always had an interest with the skin and skincare, which is why I would like to (hopefully!) go into dermatology. My other interests include dancing, fashion, and listening to music.

For my expectations for this submodule, I hope to gain more insight on the current state of public health and the health system in the country, and to see how our ASMPH education can help prepare us as future members of the health workforce.

For this submodule, I expect to learn more about the current state of our country’s healthcare system, including its gaps, challenges, and opportunities. 

I am looking forward to learning more of the country's healthcare status and how I, as a medical student, can help now and in the future.

My interest in health includes the application of my undergraduate degree to medicine such as brain imaging, health informatics, and the like. For pop culture, I like watching anime and Netflix series like House MD, Breaking Bad, and Elite.

I have many expectations for this sub-module, especially coming from a non-traditional premed program. I don't have any background with health and medicine at all. For this sub-module, I look forward to learning the country's public health situation, and how I, as a future physician, will be able to address the health issues as well as contribute to improving the country's health system.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music through an audiophile’s perspective. I have my own set-up that allows me to experience my music the way I want it. I also enjoy watching movies, tv shows, anime, and sports. I also love playing sports like basketball, fantasy basketball, and swimming. I play a couple of video games to help keep me busy :)

The Biology curriculum in ADMU doesn't touch a lot on Public Health so this is something I look forward to learning about in ASMPH. I expect to come out of the submodule with a more informed and grounded take on the Public Health situation in our country.

Through this submodule, I am looking forward to learning about Public Health through ASMPH, and how I, as an aspiring doctor, can contribute to furthering Public Health in the Philippine context.

For my undergraduate thesis, I studied the gut microbiome of fish and its susceptibility to plant essential oil in order to improve the health of fish in aquaculture. With this, I would like to now learn more about both the sciences in human health and the larger scope of public health though this submodule and the following years in the ASMPH. Specifically for this submodule, I expect to learn about the status of public health in the country and the systems in place to maintain or improve it. 

My interest in becoming a doctor was majorly influenced by my parents who are both doctors. As I entered college, I saw the importance of health not just in the medical field, but also in the social, environmental, and spiritual aspects of life. With these, my interest in health grew, from just focusing on the individual health to understanding the health of the community and the environment.

Currently, I am learning how to play tennis. During my free time I like to shop, travel, watch netflix, and hangout with friends.

Despite being a novice, my favorite sports are kickboxing and tennis. I like long walks and reading in my leisure time. For this submodule, I expect to be briefed about the anatomy of the ASMPH curricula and to know my fellow (future) doctors on a more personal level. Despite my apprehensions regarding the rigorous academic requirements, I have faith that I will get through the succeeding semesters with the aid of my colleagues and the skills we will gain during this transition module.  

Considering that my course has delved more about the natural and physical sciences, I am looking forward to learning more about the nuances of medicine and healthcare (or even just an introduction of it) through this submodule.

Coming from a family of doctors and lawyers, I grew up pretty much exposed to both medicine and law. Thankfully, my parents allowed me to choose whichever path (as long as it's within those two 😂) I wanted to pursue. Ultimately, it was my late grandmother who made me realize what I really wanted to be—I wanted to be her. I wanted to become a doctor who was remembered for her kindness and her heart to serve.

As for my downtime activities & hobbies, I typically unwind by watching my pending korean dramas & listening to kpop + taylor swift 💃. I am also a huge concert-goer & my love for travel has yet to be rivaled (especially if it's solo!). For this submodule, I am hoping that batch/group activities may be integrated so that it is not just purely lectures & slides. That is all, thank you! ♥️

From this submodule, I expect my eyes to be opened to the different realities that are present in our healthcare system and be educated on the different approaches of public health. With this, I hope to be inspired to pursue or immerse myself in more public health opportunities in the future.

During my free time, I love to broaden my perspective and read books of all kinds (fantasy, historical, classics). I'm also into watching anime, reading manga, sharing creative craft content on Instagram, and spending time with my dogs.

I am looking forward to contextualization of healthcare in the Philippines and how we can adapt and improve the current system in concrete steps so that it would be available for everyone.

As for my other interests, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and doing different activities (ex. sports) with them. I also enjoy watching movies and tv shows.

As of now, I do not have specific expectations about this submodule but I am curious and interested to learn more about the public health aspect of the curriculum.

I was previously from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila under the BS Biology major in Medical Biology degree, batch 2023.

At the moment, my work takes up most of my time as an Account Executive for an agency. Whenever I can, I try to read RomCom books because they're lighter to read. On Sundays, you'll catch me watching the F1 Grand Prix (obviously stressing about Ferrari).

Prior to deciding that I wanted to do medicine, I was so sure that I was going to take up my masters in public health because nothing else interested me aside from this. Coming from a state university and witnessing all walks of life, this rewired my brain to always think of the community and because I've always aspired to be part of the healthcare industry, I wanted to pursue public health.

I enjoy pop culture, play sports like football and golf recreationally, watch NBA basketball, and play video games (though not as much nowadays). I've also watched some well-known anime, K-dramas, and movies recently. I'm definitely open to trying new things!

I pursued medicine because I am really passionate about helping people and letting them experience life. I have been participating in different programs that would promote health and I also participate in community immersions where I learn about the different experiences of the different individuals. These experiences opened my eyes on the gap of healthcare accessibility in our country which made me really want to pursue medicine. I am interested in Korean pop culture, K-dramas, Anime, and I also love to bake and play games.

I'm eager to learn more about public health as I'd be able to immerse myself more in different communities in the next 5 years. I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of my classmates and support each other in our med journey!:)

One of the things that pique my interest in health are children, specifically their behavior and development, and how factors like upbringing or environment affect these. I really love Korean Variety shows like Running Man and The Return of Superman, to name a few.

I expect this submodule to be very in-depth about the inequalities our public health faces and how we can help as we become doctors.

As for pop culture, I love listening to The 1975, and watching sport leagues, especially that of football and tennis! Moving forward, I expect that this submodule will introduce opportunities (especially through the community exposure) that we could take in support of improving public health in the Philippines.

I am very interested in the aspects of health beyond the corners of the clinic and beyond the clinical lens. I like to dabble on Public Policy and Systems Thinking as ways to improve health outcomes, and I believe that proper systems are the way to a healthier Philippines! Beyond my aspirations as a Medical Doctor, I am really into photography, and multimedia; I also really REALLY like K-Pop and it's what I do for most of my free time. As a girl's girl, I do listen to Taylor Swift a lot and relate to most of her discography!

I hope to broaden my knowledge in Public Health through this module and through my years in ASMPH.

To be completely honest, I'm still figuring out what I want to do in med school beyond becoming a doctor. So I really hope that somehow the Public Health module will give me an idea or inspiration on what I want to achieve in ASMPH.

For my interests, I really enjoy running, going to the gym, watching anime and tv series (currently watching HOTD), embroidery, listening to music (Laufey and Hozier are some of my faves), and playing video games (i recently got back into minecraft).

I expect that this submodule would give us an introduction to the basic frameworks and systems of public health and how these are integrated into the MD-MBA program of ASMPH. One of the main reasons why I chose ASMPH is how strongly it believes in the holism of health.

My interests outside academics are inclined towards artistic pursuits like drawing and painting but I also love watching shows, playing video games, and playing with my dog.

I am originally from La Union (yes, the famous vacation spot) and ever since I moved to Manila, I always miss being by the beach. I am also a swimmer. I started swimming when I was 3 and became competitive when I was 5. Furthermore, I love listening to music especially Taylor Swift and Kpop. I also love reading fiction books.

I have always dreamed of being a doctor ever since I was a kid but despite knowing that I will take this path for a long time, I do not know what I want to specialize in. I hope that through this module and the next few years in ASMPH, I can broaden my perspective and get a sense of what direction I will take on.

For this submodule, I expect to get to know more about our partner communities and organizations. Moreso, I would like to get to deepen my knowledge regarding the current healthcare system in the country. 

My expectations for this submodule is that I hope to learn more about what public health is truly about and how these concepts can be applied to the practice of everyday medicine. I also hope to gain insight about the state of public health in the Philippines so that I can become more socially aware to the needs of the country in hopes of creating change for the future.

For this submodule, I hope to learn more about what is in store for us in terms of the public health-related courses and activities in ASMPH. I am hopeful that it will aid in widening our view of health, and help us envision the kind of doctor-leader we want to be. :)

I am an active community volunteer of Philippine Red Cross - Rizal Chapter and in Rotaract Lakeshore Rizal. Together, these organizations, we provide support and assistance to our fellow Rizaleños in any possible way we can. In connection with it, serving and helping the underserved people is one of my passions, that is why I also want to be a community medical doctor in the future.

Being from the province of Tarlac, my interest as I take up med school is to be an excellent doctor that can make a change in the current health system in my hometown in Capas. Outside of this, my interests also include playing and watching sports like basketball. I also love watching films from different genres as a past time hobby.

My expectation for this submodule is to be more exposed to the public health modules I will take for the next few years.

Much of my expectation for the public health modules in general would be to clarify the delineation of functions between government institutions (DOH, PhilHealth, LGUs...) in terms of implementation of laws such as the Universal Health Care Law. What would be their specific roles in terms of policy development and regulation with both the national and local levels.

Beyond academics and career goals, I find joy in playing football and fencing, as well as trying out unique food. Recently, however, I must confess I've been quite the couch potato, engrossed in playing video games on my Nintendo Switch, a Christmas gift I purchased using my savings.

In this submodule, I'm eager to learn more about the current state of Philippine healthcare. I believe that the community exposure experience scheduled for this Wednesday will broaden my understanding beyond the numbers seen in news and research reports.

During my undergrad, I enjoyed learning about parasites as I was under the guidance of many notable parasitologists. I learned how neglected the field was and how interesting it can be when you start seeing how big of a change it can be for the people in need if given more focus on! Other than this, in my free time, I like to play basketball and watch series in Netflix!

In this submodule, my expectations are to learn more about the status of the public health sector in the lens of doctors and what we can do as medical students to help impact change in it in the Philippines.

Expectations-wise, I do expect to see the emphasis on health being more than just a systematic, genetic, biological, or even individual factor. However, I do expect to learn more about other systems and views of public health that I have not been able to study before. Furthermore, I am curious to see what ASMPH has to offer in terms of public health theoretically and exposure/practice-wise.

My interest in health, especially public health, began during an outreach activity in the remote barangays

of my hometown in Palawan. There, I noticed the stunted growth of children

and their lack of access to even basic necessities. This interest was further amplified when we conducted our thesis

study among the Tagbanua IP community. I realized that their distance from the nearest RHU hinders them from

accessing essential programs. These experiences led me to pursue a career in medicine, with a focus on serving

rural areas in the future. I expect this module to deepen my understanding of how public health can influence communities and

how we, as future medical professionals, can be catalysts for improving health for everyone.

In my free time, I watch K-dramas/shows (most recent one is Queen of Tears 😆), go on runs and hikes, read books (especially fantasy novels), and recently I've started learning how to cook!

In terms of my expectations, I hope to be more attuned to the different public health concepts/models/frameworks that were introduced to us in the introductory lecture and I hope to see how these are applied in real world scenarios given that we will also have our community exposure - something I'm really looking forward to!

I've always been keen on the health side of life, found it fascinating since I feel like its open-ended.

As for pop culture, well I would say naman that I am up-to-date... at least with TikTok ;).

As for my expectations for this submodule, I am expecting that this submodule would... MATCH MY FREAK!

Outside of academics, I love watching sports, particularly volleyball and Formula 1. I am very much looking forward to watching more sports content in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

In this submodule, I expect to learn more about how ASMPH's curriculum integrates public health concepts along with our MD and MBA subjects.

In my free time, I enjoy watching series such as Dynasty, Grey’s Anatomy, and Gossip Girl. I also enjoy listening to artists such as Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. 

In this submodule, I expect to learn more and have a deeper understanding of the social determinants of health, the six building blocks of health, and the different perspectives from which health can be viewed. 

I am interested in pursuing a job in public health in the future. In this module I hope to learn more about the Public health situation here in the Philippines, and to get a general overview of what we are going to learn throughout our stay.

In my spare time I like watching sitcoms. My favorite is The Office :>

Outside of medicine, I am physically active as a person as I enjoy playing different sports since I love being competitive and I feel like this is a healthy outlet.

My expectations for this submodule is to be able to see healthcare from a wider perspective. I have always seen being a physician in a linear way which consists of having an individual practice and your own patients. However, I am open to expanding my view on this and to be able to learn how physician-leaders can impact the health sector in different ways!

I have learned that having expectations in life only brings me disappointment, so in general, I just choose to have no expectations. I am a sponge. I just want to absorb experiences and hope I can face what's ahead while being flexible enough to adapt to the situations I will face.

I do not want to put any expectations on this submodule as I want to be surprised over what I would learn and experience from the upcoming days. I do promise to be receptive of the lessons being imparted to me and provide my full attention in learning and absorbing the sessions to come.

My interests in health include exercise physiology, community health, and environmental health. Outside of academics, I take great interest in the arts such as photography, film, graphic design, and music, as well as exercise and fashion. :)

For this submodule, I hope to gain a better grasp of public health concepts and know more about the current issues of our healthcare systems in the Philippines.

I've always wanted to be a doctor, but my resolve got a lot stronger after I got to work in the UPD IB Public Health Biology Lab for my undergrad thesis, and there, I learned how understudied a lot of conditions are in the Philippines. A lot of people suffer from diseases that aren't well-understood here, and so I want to learn about how this can be improved. I want to learn how much of an impact I can make as a future healthcare provider and how I can maximize this for the good of my patients, and I hope I can do this in this module!

Outside academics, I am a K-Pop and K-Drama fangirl (that's why I immediately noticed Seventeen in this page haha). The last K-Drama I finished right before starting med school is Doctor Slump (talking about doctors with depression and PTSD). I also enjoy thrift shopping/ukay-ukay when I have free time, because, as a slave of time, it helps me calm down and feel like time has slowed down temporarily for me. It also helped me learn that great things can take time to find and that they can be found in the most unexpected places. I also enjoy going to beaches, rivers, mountains, and nature in general. I have 6 cats and 3 dogs.

I've always been interested in specializing in internal medicine as a future physician, particularly in Cardiology. But during my gap year, I worked at a Nevada-based healthcare facility and had the opportunity to provide direct patient care to outpatient psychiatric patients, and it led me to becoming interested in Psychiatry too! Experiencing how efficient the American healthcare system is, I can't help but to compare it to the present situation of our healthcare here in the Philippines. It made me both sad and hopeful. This experience inspired me to one day, be one of the catalysts that will improve healthcare and make it accessible and universal for everyone.

Aside from academics and health, I'm interested creating things with various media. I enjoy graphic design (especially slides and publications!), and doing digital art. Whenever I have some downtime, I also read fiction, with particular interest in science fiction and fantasy. As a form of stress reliever, you will usually find me in a bookstore just window shopping or looking for a book in my TBR!

For the Public Health Submodule, I hope I'll learn more about various healthcare issues in the Philippines, and the strategies on how solutions can be formed to address these problems.

Aside from academics, I like to take long walks, watch Asian movies and dramas (recent faves are Lovely Runner and Prison Playbook!), read manga, and listen to K-pop ఇ ◝‿◜ ఇ. I also enjoy going to various art markets/conventions!

With this Public Health submodule, I expect to learn how it's effectively integrated into the curriculum. I also hope to know the various ways and opportunities for students to focus on this specific path while still in med school with the help of ASMPH.

My interest in the medical field leans more towards pediatrics as inspired by my service in my college organization, Kythe-Ateneo. My personal interests are reading fiction/non-fiction books, traveling, going to the gym, playing pickleball, and pottery.

My expectations for the public submodule include gaining a macro perspective into the status of Philippine healthcare, picking up anecdotes and facts to help me ground my desired approach to medical school, as well as gain friends along the way.

Outside of studying, I love listening to music, particularly to pop songs from a few years back. It creates a nostalgia to me that keeps me going, especially when I have to go through lessons. Aside from music, I try to explore reading classical pocket books to take my world away.

Lastly, in this Public Health submodule, I hope to learn about other health issues that are just alarming as those that we Filipinos commonly known about. I also want to know more about the partner communities of ASMPH.
