This occurs when unauthorized software is downloaded from the Internet. The same rules apply to online software purchases and CD purchases. Common Internet hacking techniques are:

Sites that make the software available for free download or in exchange for other software
Internet auction sites offering counterfeit or off-channel software
Peer-to-peer networks that allow unauthorized transfer of copyrighted programs
Piracy by the end user

It occurs when an individual reproduces copies of the software without authorization. For example:

Using a licensed copy to install a program on multiple computers
Copying disks for installation or distribution
Taking advantage of upgrade offers, without having a legitimate copy of the version to be updated
Acquisition of academic software or other software restricted or not available for sale without the appropriate license
Changing discs at or outside the workplace
Excessive use of the client-server
This type of piracy occurs when an excessive number of users on a network use a central copy of a program at the same time. If you have a local network and install programs on the server to be used by multiple users, you need to make sure that your licenses allow you to do this. If you have more users than the number allowed by the license, this is considered "overuse".
