Atticus as a father figure

Atticus can be considered as a kind of model figure for an ideal father in the story. He represents this model by doing three things: being a source of comfort for his kids, being the main source of knowledge for his kids and setting a good example for his kids. He demonstrated these qualities throughout the story by hugging/kissing/spending time with his kids (comfort), tells them answers to sensitive topics such as the definition of rape (knowledge) while doing so in a tactful way, and accepting the T. Robinson case even though he knows he could potentially lose, but he's doing it simply as it's the right thing to do (good example).
