Vlašim is a town with 11 500 inhabitants located in central Bohemia about 1 hour drive from Prague. It's history goes back to the 14th century.

Beautiful park

There is a beautiful and large english park in Vlašim. Some parts of the park are nicely maintained, but as the park is large, you can find there also parts with wild nature. You can spot for example a kingfisher or a woodpecker in our park. In the photo you can see a Chinese pavilion, the oldest preserved chinese pavilion in the Czech Republic build in around 1780.

Schools

This is our school ZŠ Sídliště Vlašim. It is a middle sized primary school for children from 6 to 15 years old. It also has a Montessori section for younger children form 6 to 11.

Culture

This is probably the biggest culture event that takes place in Vlašim. It is called Májovky and it is held annually on the 1st of May in our park. It is full of music, activities for children and shopping stalls with different goods.

CHKO Velký Blaník

There is a nature protected area near Vlašim called Velký Blaník. It was founded in order to preserve the nature of the Velký Blaník hill and its surrounding. In our country we also have a well-known legend connected to the hill. It says a story about st. Wenceslas and his army of knights sleeping inside the hill and waiting until our country is in danger to wake up and save our lands.

Going out and eating out

Despite the fact that Vlašim is a rather small town, we still have some nice and trendy cafes and restaurants. For instance Cafe Spolu or Na Vývoji Restaurant are great places if you want to spend time with your friends, have a nice meal or treat yourself with some sweet cakes and good-quality coffee :-)

Famous historical figure

Jan Očko z Vlašimi lived in the 14th century, he was an archbishop and an advisor of Charles IV. There is his statue in the Vlašim's park.
