But most of the structures used to generate this electricity, such as power plants, dams, cause damage to the environment. For example, because dams change the height of the water, fish experience problems during spawning periods. As a result, fish species native to the region are becoming endangered. This is just one of the examples. Not using electricity responsibly causes dozens of problems like this to increase.

The combustion of fossil fuels releases pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the air we all breathe. These pollutants contribute to air pollution and smog formation. They have adverse effects on human health, increasing respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, asthma, and even premature death. Vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are at the greatest risk.
Fossil fuels are also a problem for the marine ecosystem: oil spills, for example, kill marine life and cause long-term damage to aquatic environment. Additionally, the disposal of wastewater from the extraction of hydrocarbons from underground often contaminate groundwater and drinking water sources.
The extraction and transportation of fossil fuels often involve destructive practices, such as mountaintop removal mining, strip mining, and deforestation. These activities cause habitat destruction, soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and disruption of ecosystems, harming both wildlife and plant species.

Using it wisely can also make us save money on our bills, reduce its demand so its price could become cheaper, improve our health and reduce the pollution coming from the emissions of non-renewable sources, too. There are indeed many problems related to the consequences of using electricity too much or in a bad way, such as air pollution (greenhouse gas emissions), water pollution, thermal pollution and solid waste, all contributing to worsen the climate change crisis. Acknowledging the repercussions of irresponsible human actions when it comes down to electricity, should make us start thinking of ways to use it wisely and to conserve it efficiently.

Lately we had the opportunity to experience really closely the side effect of burning fossil fuels. For example, this July we have achieved the highest temperatures ever recorded, that may not seem a real problem for us, who have the opportunity to contrast the heat with a lot of comforts; however, it's a serious trouble for people who live in poor parts of the planet and also for animals.
It's important for us to pay attention on the quantity of electricity we consume everyday that, if being reduced, can imply an economical seving. A simple tip to start could be cycling more around the city instead of using always the car.

They've been the main source of energy for the last century and it's now hard to imagine a world without them.
Nevertheless fossil fuels have several issues. Being pollutants is probably the most prominent one, they can pollute the air, create smog and amplify the greenhouse effect, but they can also pollute the waters during transportation because of oil spillings.
Secondly fossil fuels, that have been buried underground for millions of years, are limited and they are being extracted faster than they can regenerate themselves, therefore fossil fuels won't be available forever and other sources of energy need to be discovered or developed in order to mantain our current state of living.

We all know that consuming fossil fuels is harmful to the environment and our planet, so why do we keep doing it?
Simply because we cannot not do it, we have to keep using fossil fuels, but in cases in which they’re replaceable we should take the opportunity and tone their usage down.
For example, we can reduce their use by biking or walking somewhere instead of using cars, or if it’s a longer distance, then use a public transport instead of a car. We can use solar energy, to charge our devices, light our homes, but the issue comes up when we bring manufacturing into the picture. For all we know solar energy, or any other kind of environmental friendly energy, couldn’t possibly create enough energy to keep a factory or big industry going. We also have to keep in mind that the population is growing and will keep growing, which means that we need even more energy to sustain every person. But, some countries are still coming up with solutions.
The Emirates built a new nuclear power plant that can power 25% of the country without any carbon emissions. Also, it has been proven that it is 100% safe, actually 250 times safer than oil fields. Obviously nuclear energy has its own challenges when it comes to radioactive waste management, but some will argue that it is still more sustainable than fossil fuels.
So, in conclusion, reducing fossil fuels is a very hard task but considering the improvements that our society is making and will keep on making, I do believe that we will be able to reduce their usage much more than now and make the world a cleaner place.

There are several reasons why it is crucial to consume fossil fuels responsibly. First of all, climate change: fossil fuels are the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, which are the primary cause of climate change. By consuming them responsibly, we can reduce our carbon footprint and mitigate the impacts of global warming. In addition, unsustainable extraction and consumption of fossil fuels can lead to environmental degradation, including habitat destruction, deforestation, and water pollution. Responsible consumption helps protect ecosystems and reduces the strain on natural resources.
Overall, consuming fossil fuels responsibly is crucial for mitigating climate change, protecting the environment, promoting sustainable resource management, and transitioning to cleaner energy sources. It supports the well-being of current and future generations by reducing the negative impacts associated with their extraction and consumption.

When fossil fuels are burned, gases are released that create the so-called greenhouse effect, which, in turn, trap heat in our atmosphere, making them primarily responsible for global warming and climate change. Therefore, we must consume fuels responsibly to avoid increased temperatures, droughts, water shortages, serious fires, melting of the poles, catastrophic storms and a decrease in biodiversity.
