As a school, we have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. In line with our requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, there are a number of checks and training requirements that must be completed before you can commence your volunteer role. These measures are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and to support you in your role as a volunteer.

This Padlet is design to help you through the process. Please do contact us if you have any queries or need any assistance whatsoever.

DBS

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, anyone working with children, on a voluntary basis, must have an enchanced DBS check.

We will obtain some basic personal information from you and send you an invitation to complete the application online.

Once the application is complete you will need to provide identification to the school office.

As part of our commitment to keeping children safe and ensuring that everyone has a positive experience in school, we ask all volunteers to provide a reference before they begin their role. This is a standard part of our volunteer induction process and helps us get to know a little more about the people who kindly give their time to support our school.

The reference is not intended to be intrusive or to create unnecessary barriers to volunteering. Rather, it provides reassurance that individuals working within our school community are suitable for the role and helps us meet our safeguarding responsibilities towards the children in our care. Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 places a strong emphasis on safer recruitment and appropriate pre-appointment checks for those working with children, including volunteers.

We appreciate that some volunteers may not have a recent employer. In those circumstances, we are happy to accept a reference from someone who knows you in a professional, community, educational or voluntary capacity and can comment on your character, reliability and suitability to volunteer in a school setting.

We greatly value the contribution that volunteers make to our school and will do all we can to make the onboarding process straightforward and supportive. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for all pupils.

Above are the schools Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL's). The safety, wellbeing and welfare of our pupils is our highest priority. We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive environment where children can learn, develop and thrive. This commitment extends to all staff, governors, contractors and volunteers.

As a volunteer, you play an important role in supporting our pupils and contributing to our school community. To help ensure that children remain safe at all times.

If you have any concerns regarding any child please do not hesitate in asking to speak with one of our DSL's.

As a volunteer, you may spend time with children and notice changes in their appearance, behaviour or wellbeing. While you are not expected to make judgements about a child's health or circumstances, we ask that you remain alert to any signs that a child may need support.

If a child appears unwell, upset, distressed or significantly different from their usual presentation, please inform a member of staff as soon as possible.
