Age- Their age can influence their judgment. If they are elderly, then they may have trouble remembering, while if they are really young they can easily add onto the story and have their imagination run wild.
Drug use- If under the influence of drugs the witness will not be able to give a clear statment on what happend, since their mind would be affected.
Race- Some people can remember the description of someone of their own race better.
Media- Depending on what will get the media more attention it can influence a witness's choice before they even enter the courtroom. Despite how wrong the person may be if the media says otherwise it can be a negative influence.
Trauma- Some situations can be very traumatizing for a witness and make it hard for them to give a clear statement.
Attraction- Some studies show that a witness can recall the criminals face better if they are really attractive or unattractive.
Knowing the area- If the witness is familiar with the area it will make it easier to describe the situation better.
Time of day- The time of day can be a factor because if it was night time it could be hard to see what all happened.

Both film and digital cameras are used to photograph the area, various lens, flashes, filters, sketchpad, tripod, pens, pencils, measuring tapes, rulers, and notepads are used for this process on the investigation. Another thing that can be done is a video-walkthrough. The CSI might make a scientific observation of the evidence he finds and makes observations without drawing conclusions since they can be harmful. When the CSIs are taking pictures of the area, they will take overview shots (Pictures of all the rooms, surrounding buildings, spectators nearby, outside of building, and all entrances and exits.), Mid-range photos (Shows key pieces of evidence and the locations of it.), And close ups (Individual pieces of eveidence, along with any serial numbers or other identifying characteristics.)
The CSIs may also take videos and make sketches to document.

CSI often will use tweezers, plastic containers with lids, and other things to collect trace evidence. They will also have a biohazard kit with disposable gloves, booties, face mask, gown and biohazard waste bag.
Body fluids at a crime scene are collected by using a scalpel, smear slides UV light, sterile cloth squares. The CSI will also use a blood sample kit on suspects or a living victim for comparison. Other things they collect for evidence is hairs and fibers. Analysts use hair DNA to compare in order to shorten the list of suspects or identify the right one, they can also analyze fingerprints to identify the suspect. Footprints, firearms, and documents are also observed and collected for further evidence.

Things such as latent fingerprints and impressions, can be compared along with tire impressions. Analysts can run the fingerprints through an Automatic Fingerprint Identification System, (AFIS) and compares to millions of other fingerprints through the FBI database. Trace evidence is run through a specific analysis and compared to different samples. Another group specializes in recovering evidence in computer and enhancing audio or visual evidence. For firearms, bullets and wound impressions are compared.
