To apply for any of these opportunities, please discuss with your transition coordinator at school who can arrange for the best person to support you (e.g. through transition planning meetings).

There will be some young people with substantial, critical and/or multiple disabilities where planning for any further education, training or employment options post school may not be appropriate. In these instances assigned social workers may be able to assess, support and arrange funding for a suitable alternative provision including day services or supported living options. Creative Natives offers an inclusive, inspiring, fun space for 14-24 year-olds who want to express themselves through drawing and painting, sculpting, music making, animation, crafting and film making. Free to access if you live in the Edinburgh area.

Some of these options will charge for their service - and it's important to discuss how these will be paid for at your/your young person's transition planning meetings (e.g. will you be expected/able to pay for this yourself? Are there other funding options that can be used (e.g. the ILF fund)? Will social care budgets allow for this? etc.)

Edinburgh Project SEARCH (EPS) provides employment and learning opportunities for young people with a disability. A full time course for 1 year for those who are looking for full time work.

For some young people with certain specific needs or disabilities (e.g. significant physical needs) there may need to be additional consideration and planning made for how they can access their course. Edinburgh college have learning support staff that will be able to plan for their learning needs, but if there are any social care needs (e.g. personal care needs) this should be discussed and planned for well in advance as the college not be able to provide this themselves - rather it will need consideration and assessments thorough social care teams. The Transition Fund provides up to £4,000 to support young people with a disability or impairment as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

Disabilities can include:

• learning difficulties

• intellectual disabilities

• mental health (e.g. anxiety or depression)

• hearing or visual impairments.

Young people or their parents/carers can self refer to this fund.

The Games Club runs on a Friday evening and is for young people of all genders who are aged 11 – 18. They have games consoles such as a Nintento Switch, Xbox One S, PS3, Wii and PC’s/Laptops that can all be used on the night. There are also workshops such as 3D printing, character design, coding, music (guitar, ukulele, DJing etc) and trips to places like the Virtual Reality Arcade, Games Conventions, Escape Rooms, Glasgow Science Centre and Laser Station.

Youth Theatre for learning disabled young people aged 13-17: Tuesdays 6.30-8.30pm. Free to access.

A three year training programme where the participants will learn skills in acting, movement, music, singing and acting for camera as well as opportunities for work experience. Currently running 1 day a week and is free to access.
