Malala inspires me because she continuously demonstrated hope and did not let fear get in her way of achieving her goals. In 2012, Malala was shot and significantly wounded by the Taliban, miraculously she survived and continued to fight for others. This demonstrated her resilience to continuously fight for what she believed in (Glyde, 2015). Her courage inspires me to fight for human rights and equality, giving everyone the same opportunities. Malala was a very brave individual who inspired many people creating both change in her own country, as well as our world. The way she risked her own life for other individuals is incredibly inspiring to me because it shows that small as well as large efforts can result in some form of change.

Malala was a human rights advocate who wanted to fight oppression for women and for everyone to have the right to education. She did not give up this fight; Malala believed women deserved the same resources, services, and opportunities as any other gender.

Throughout this assignment, I learned a lot about Malala, as well, about how I can take this information to use it in both my personal and professional life. I believe it is important to work under the impression that everyone deserves the same justice and equality. Malala never made it seem like women deserve an education, but that everyone deserves an education. This was working towards an anti-oppressive stance on how everyone has the right. I will take this into professional practice by using language that is not oppressing towards individuals, even if that is not the direct meaning. Language can change a lot of situations and create oppressive view points. For example, in class it was talked about some phrases that may seem normal to say, however are oppressive towards individuals. An example would be “We welcome all people, regardless if they are white or non-white”, this quote mentions populations that did not have to be mentioned (D2L Powerpoint, 2025, slide. 8). A more appropriate way of saying this is “We welcome all people”, therefore it is making the initial point while not talking in an oppressive way. Additionally, Malala tried her hardest to fight for education for everyone. Even when she was shot in the head, she continued to fight for what she believed was right. She wanted to create a more anti-oppressive environment for people in her country which promoted justice for the world. I will take her story as an inspiration for me and continue to take my stance on what I think is more just and anti-oppressive for all populations of people.

Malala fought for her rights from an anti-oppressive viewpoint. She never discriminated against anyone, including the Taliban. In later years, Malala showed forgiveness towards the person who shot her. Her father said “It was not a person. It was an ideology” when a person shot her (Glyde, 2015, para. 4). Malala always continued to stay true to herself and her beliefs, promoting hope, freedom, equality, and being anti-violence. Through this, she showed resilience by continuing to fight for her rights even after she was shot. Her strategy consisted of standing up by speaking publicly and making a stance on the issues she was fighting for. Her goal was to once again be able to attend school as a girl in her country without it being illegal.

When Malala was 15 years old, the Taliban stopped a school bus looking for Malala. They shot her in the head due to her speaking out about equal rights in regards to education and freedom (Olesen, 2016). Her outspokenness resulted in violence and took away from her safety. Though she lived through the tragic accident, it caused pain and stress in her family due to her almost passing. Malala however, did not let this stop her from continuing to fight for justice even though it caused a setback in her fight. Malala showed resilience through this because she did not let the Taliban create a barrier for what she believed in, and instead, became stronger.

Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan (Blumberg, 2025). Growing up, she attended school and did significantly well, following after her father who was her inspiration (Blumberg, 2025). In 2007, an Islamic law was created to prohibit girls from attending school which led Malala to speak out publicly about this law in 2011 in order to create social change (Blumberg, 2025).

Malala recognized in her speeches that girls should have the right to attend school.When Malala turned 10 years old, she no longer had the right to attend school. At age 11, she began speaking publicly, fighting for other girls in her country to have the right to an education. She identified equality needing to occur between genders in her country.
