Beverly Powell (Democrat) is likely to win the race for Texas State Senate District 10. Not only is the national environment conducive to Democrats, what with the Generic Ballot (asking, “would you vote for a Democrat or Republican”) preferring Democrats by 8 points (fivethirtyeight.com 11/05/18 at 8:58am, “Are Democrats / Republicans Winning The Generic Ballot?”) - but Beverly has attracted significantly more local institutional support (beverlypowell.com 11/02/18, “Endorsements”) culminating in a likely loss for Incumbent Konni Burton. While traditionally the Incumbency Advantage - whereby both through name recognition and Franking Privileges the incumbent is more likely to win than a challenger (fairvote.com Landsman 04/17) - would lend support to Konni’s chances, an analysis from ABC’s Nate Silver found that the incumbency advantage, for a variety of reasons, is less potent this cycle (fivethirtyeight.com 10/31/18 at 5:35pm, “Politics Podcast: In Which We Argue Against Ourselves”) making the already unpopular Konni Burton (Texas Tribune, Livingston, 05/09/18) more vulnerable. Though traditionally considered a safe red State (NYT 08/01/17 at 11:22am) considering Texas State Senate District 10 is the only swing district in the Texas Senate (Dallas Morning News 09/12/18) Beverly has a good shot winning on November 6th.
