         <description><![CDATA[<div>•After being scolded by Atticus about mocking the Radley's  Scout, Jem , and Dill stay away from the Radley house until the day before Dill leaves.<br>• Jem and Dill decide to take a walk to the Radley house and when Scout protests they make fun of her for acting like a girl.<br>•After making it through collard greens, the gate, and passed the chickens they make it up to the back of the Radley House.<br>•Jem and Scout raise Dill up to see in the window, but all he sees is curtains.<br>•After seeing the shadow of a man, the kids run away.<br>•A shotgun goes off behind them, and Jem's pants get stuck on the fence while they run away.<br>•The kids meet most of the neighborhood gathered in front of the Radley's.<br>•Miss Maudie says, "Mr. Radley at a Negro in his collard patch" (Lee 72).<br>•Atticus then asks Jem where his pants are.<br>•Dill tries to cover up by saying the kids were playing strip-poker, but they were playing with matches not cards.<br>•When Atticus falls asleep at night, Jem goes back to the Radley's to go get his pants.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This chapter gives readers another view of the Radley house and Maycomb county. Readers learn that Mr. Radley is not tolerant of anyone being in his backyard, and he is willing to shoot whoever is there. We also learn that the people in Maycomb county to not tolerate children playing with cards. This chapter furthers the plot by keeping the reader more interested in the Radley's and of Boo Radley. Readers will hope to see the Radley house again in further chapters.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>•"Scout, I'm tellin' you for the last time, shut your trap or go home—I declare to the Lord you're gettin' more like a girl every day!" With that, I had no option but to join them" (Lee 69).<br>-This quote shows an example that Scout will do anything to avoid being insulted by being called a girl. When Jem says this, Scout decides to tag along to prove she's not acting like a girl.<br><br>•"Matches were dangerous, but cards were fatal" (Lee 73).<br>-This quote gives readers another insight on the beliefs in Maycomb county. Readers realize it's more socially acceptable to play with matches than cards.<br><br>•"I--it's like this, Scout," he muttered. "Atticus ain't ever whipped me since I can remember. I wanta keep it that way" (Lee 75).<br>-When Jem says this, readers see how important he views his and Atticus' relationship. Jem's willing to risk his life, rather than anger Atticus.<br><br>“Maybe so, but—I just wanta keep it that way, Scout. We shouldn’a done that tonight, Scout” (Lee 75).<br>-In this quote, readers can realize Jem is starting to mature. He's starting to take responsibility for his choices.</div>]]></description>
