Furthermore, through individual or group presentations, this practice will instil confidence to present in front of their peers, which will come in useful for their IA.

Students will be required to understand the different text type features as well as consider the contextual implications. They would also be required to do some research with their classmates on the context and the impact it has on the production of a text. They would be tasked in offering their interpretations and debate on the validity of their claims. This would be useful for their IA and HL essay as well.

    By exposing students to several renowned as well as controversial speakers, they would learn to understand the various issues of different times and how they have an impact on society. 

    This could be tied into the ATLs: local and global contexts as well as enable them to understand the the similarities and differences of social/political issues across times and make connections as they prepare for their IA.

    These may include:
    • teacher-guided annotations of extracts of Persepolis or 1984. 
    • Students could do a creative piece from a character's perspective, for example, Marji's internal monologue at a certain chapter. This would require them to pay attention to context as well
    • mind maps connecting the similarities or differences among literary works and texts of their choice, or those suggested in this AOE
